The trunk space is a little on the light side but offers room for luggage or groceries from the local market.

Handling and performance

Boosted steering provides the needed sensitivity for effortless driving and great control, particularly when it comes to cornering and lane changes. Smooth and easy are good ways to describe the handling. An occasional hiccup has been noted in the takeoff but the majority of them are smooth and tasteful. The diesel has been modified to limit the old noise of starting with clicks and clacks and replaced the starting mechanism with the convenience of a push button. It has the feel of a well balanced vehicle that handles precisely as it should maintaining smooth turns and straight lines. The stiffness of the ride is what you would expect in a luxury all wheel drive, but this has been kept in moderation. Needed corrections are minimal. The ride is sweet and supplies comfort, luxury and responsiveness in the right proportions.

Now we get to the heart of the matter and find out what Jaguar has done to make this sporty luxury sedan such an amazing vehicle. We’ll leave the petrol engine out of the review for the time being and place our focus on the diesel version.

The I4 turbo diesel engine is a 2.0 liter that fires up quickly and has been modernized to offer a quiet start. Output of 180horsepower at 4000 rpm and 318 pound feet of torque at between 1750 and 2500 rpm. The eight speed automatic all wheel drive features a fuel economy of twenty four combined with thirty highway and twenty one in the city.

The new Jag offers hands superiority in handling, especially around corners when compared to the German competitors. It’s elegance and luxury are also right up there at the top with enviable aesthetics and riding comfort. It has all of the power that it needs to deliver on its promises.

There seems to be a little hesitation when accelerating. Although this is short lived and no more than a fraction of a second, it’s worth noting that it does exist. It’s’ nothing compared to the older diesels, but still something that you’ll initially find interesting and probably eventually become used to. Not a deal breaker per se but a part of the package with regard to the design.

The navigation system is highly functional but there is a learning curve associated with its use. In order to get it to function you’ll need to make a second confirmation of the address that you type in or it won’t respond. While some may find this to be a safety feature for avoiding programming an address in accidentally, it could also be viewed as an inconvenience. The matter could go either way, depending on our preferences for speed verses caution.
