The History and Story Behind the Bentley Logo

Bentley is a name that should be familiar to a lot of people out there. In short, it started out as a car manufacturer in England in 1919, but soon enough, it had managed to build up a reputation for itself beyond the borders of said region via its participation in motorsports. In particular, it should be mentioned that Bentley has had excellent showings at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, as shown by the fact that it has won on six separate occasions. Considering the prestige as well as the long-running nature of the event, this is something that says much about Bentley's own characteristics.

The fact that Bentley has been around for such a long time is particularly interesting in light of the fact that it has had its issues as well. For instance, it was actually bought out by Rolls-Royce in 1931, which is why some people might have the impression of a strong connection between the two car brands. In short, Bentley continued to exist as a sub-division of Rolls-Royce until the 1970s, which was when said car manufacturer had to be nationalized for the purpose of saving it. Eventually, the car manufacturer was split into two, with one being the aerospace segment and the other being the automotive segment. The automotive segment was eventually sold to Vickers, which eventually sold it to Volkswagen. As a result, Bentley now continues to exist under the corporate umbrella of Volkswagen, meaning that while it might not be a fully-independent company in its own right, the power of its brand is evident.

Of course, Bentley could not have hoped to remain so prominent in the world of luxury cars without a memorable symbol to represent what it is to interested individuals. Like the logos of a lot of its counterparts, its logo is not particularly complicated but nonetheless capable of making its message known with persuasive strength. On top of that, it is interesting in that it has stood the test of time since its initial creation, which further strengthens the argument for Bentley's brand power.

How Did Bentley's Logo Come Into Existence?

The Bentley logo is rather simple and straightforward in nature. First, it should come as no surprise to learn that the "B" stands for the name of the car manufacturer. Second, the wings are more symbolic in nature in the sense that they serve as representations of speed, which is connected to the powerful engines that Bentley prides itself upon. Moreover, there are some who claim that the people behind the car manufacturer had a connection to the making of engines for planes in the First World War. As a result, if that is a true claim, then there is that connection as well.

For the most part, the Bentley logo has remained more or less the same since it started seeing use. To a lot of people, this will suggest something of its timelessness, seeing as how it has managed to remain a persuasive symbol for a wide range of people in a wide range of countries out there. However, it is important to note that Bentley has not been coasting on the power of its brand but has instead been active in ensuring that its logo retains its marketing power. As a result, while the modern incarnations of the Bentley logo look much the same as their predecessors, there can be no doubt about the fact that there are different version of the Bentley logo that can be distinguished from one another by the small but nonetheless noticeable differences between them.

Will it Ever Change?

Since it has been in use for decades and decades, it is difficult to imagine that Bentley would ever choose to replace its famous logo. After all, the marketing power of a recognizable logo is not something that can be built up in a single day but instead take considerable investment of effort as well as other resources over a significant stretch of time. However, while it is doubtful that the car manufacturer would ever replace its logo, the same can't be said for it remaining in a constant and unchanging state because timelessness is something that must be maintained through constant exertion.
