Five Tips For Getting Through The Month When Money Is Tight

Money worries are something that affects all of us from time to time. Whether you’re living pay check to pay check, or you’re finding yourself struggling after a big payout, getting through the month on not-very-much is a struggle many know all too well. While payday loans are available from companies such as Uncle Buck in the case of a financial emergency, clinging on when times get tough doesn’t have to be as hard as it seems. Here, we’ve pulled together five tips for getting through the month when money is tight.

Cut Expenses… One At A Time

One of the biggest mistakes that any budgeter can make is to go in and start cutting everything all at once. By doing so, you could struggle to adjust, and are more prone to becoming overwhelmed and overspending to compensate. Instead, opt for negotiating bills one by one, or cutting down grocer or entertainment spending bit by bit. Of course, this is easier said than done when money is really tight, but taking a step back and taking a look at what you’re realistically likely to cut will prevent you from crafting a budget and then spending on what you were supposed to have cut anyway.

Try And Focus On One Debt At A Time

In a similar manner to cutting your expenses, do your best to focus on one debt at a time. Whether you opt for paying off smaller debts that you can afford first, or aim for those with higher interest that need to be cleared faster, take them one by one to stop from becoming overwhelmed. Of course, don’t completely ignore all of the other debts. Pay the very minimum you can pay for any debt on most, or negotiate lower rates where possible, and then pour whatever you can afford into that one debt that’s been causing you trouble over time. Once that’s paid off, you can focus on the next, and so on.

Look At Ways To Pull In Extra Income

Selling things, pawning items and taking on part time work are all great ways to bring in a little extra income, and they’re pretty much fool proof. Of course, if you pawn something, you have to be sure you can afford to buy it back in time, but when it comes to selling unwanted items, there are countless ways you can do exactly that with ease. If you’re looking for part time work, you don’t have to sign away all of your free time. In fact, with the likes of Uber and Deliveroo becoming more and more popular in cities and towns across the country, you can work part time whenever you like to make up the cash you need.

Cut Your Food Bill

Your food bill is undoubtedly one of the biggest costs every week, but is actually one of the easiest ones to cut! While you need to make sure you’re getting all of the nutrition you need, opting for supermarket own brands for your basics, making sure that you plan your meals for the week before you go shopping to prevent any unnecessary purchases and wasted food.

Switch To Cash

The best thing you can do if you’re tight on cash is to only use cash. How does that work, you ask? Well, by only having cash on you and not your card, you can keep a better eye on what you’re spending, and how much you have left. When using our cards, it’s far too easy to spend and forget that we’ve spent, and then double-spend a budget we had to stick to. By only using cash, it’s not possible to spend any more than you have in your purse or wallet.

Things can get stressful when money is tight, but the fact of the matter is that getting through the month isn’t as difficult as it might initially seem. While it could mean giving up some of your usual weekly luxuries until your next payday, it’s still possible to lead a good life during the weeks where your budget is low.
