Great Players Need Great Coaches Pt. 2

A lot of us enjoy watching sports.  It is thrilling to watch great athletes demonstrate their talent, skill and hard work.  However, while there are a lot of athletes, there are fewer champions, and even fewer at the hall of fame level.  All professional athletes possess great skill and some have those intangibles that make them champions, so what is it that sets the hall of fame players apart?  I think if you ask most of them they would say it would be the influence and direction of their coaches.  Think about it! Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, Michael Jordan and Bill Jackson, Joe Montana and Bill Walsh.  These players have a wealth of talent and are willing to put in the hard work, but in the end it takes a coach to focus them and provide the game plan to get them to the highest level.  Who’s your coach when it comes to landing your dream job?

What separates the great coaches from the pack is their relationship with their players after the game.  Those coaches that care about the player as a person and are there for the good times and the bad times.  The best recruiters are no different. They understand that you may not knock every interview out of the park, so they will be there to get you back on your feet and better than ever for the next one.  A great recruiter will be your mirror, to help you better see your positive qualities, identify the negative ones and move past them.  Just like great coaches consistently motivating their players at every level, great recruiters are no different.  They are your personal cheerleader, always in your corner and always pushing you on for the win.  The parallels are really solidified when you read this quote from the former coach of the Miami Dolphins, Don Shula, the only coach in NFL history with an undefeated season.
