How Lamborghini is Embracing Hybrid Technology

Hybrid cars are becoming more and more popular. After all, said vehicles can make more efficient use of gas, which is not just beneficial for their owners’ wallets but also beneficial for the environment. Combined, it is no wonder that there has been such a surge of interest in hybrid cars from consumers, which in turn, means a surge of interest from car manufacturers. For proof, look no further than Lamborghini, which seems to have been looking at hybridization for some time.

How Is Lamborghini Embracing Hybrid Technology?

In 2014, Lamborghini revealed the existence of the Lamborghini Asterion. The name of the concept car was a reference to the Minotaur of Greek mythology, who was known as Asterion to the Cretans. In this manner, Lamborghini satisfied its own tradition of naming its cars after bulls while also stressing the concept car’s status as a hybrid that runs on a combination of gas and electric power in much the same sense that its namesake was a hybrid of man and beast.

Regardless, the Lamborghini Asterion was never meant for real production. Instead, it was supposed to serve as a show of Lamborghini’s capabilities. Furthermore, it was supposed to be a response to consumer interest, which revealed that their consumers wanted hybrid cars so long as their hybridization meant superior performance for them. As a result, while the Lamborghini Asterion was sidelined in preference for the Lamborghini Urus, it was nonetheless an interesting look at the car manufacturer’s future plans.

Now, it seems that some of those plans are coming to fruition. Recently, the Lamborghini CEO Stefano Domenicali stated that the follow-up to the Lamborghini Huracan would be a hybrid, with particular emphasis on the part about it being a hybrid as opposed to a fully electric vehicle. Unfortunately, while Domenicali revealed this important fact, he refused to reveal much more than this, meaning that not too much is known at the follow-up to the Lamborghini Huracan at the moment.

With that said, a lack of information has never stopped people from speculating about what is coming in the future. For example, it seems probable that the follow-up to the Lamborghini Huracan will be drawing on the design of the Lamborghini Asterion to some extent, but it remains to be seen to what extent this will be true. In particular, it will be interesting to see whether the follow-up to the Lamborghini Huracan will be using a V10 engine assisted by electric motors or whether it will be using something new, particularly since there are reports that Lamborghini is dedicating a significant amount of resources to the process of developing newer, better engines. Unfortunately, even when speculating, there is still too little information that is known about the eventual product, meaning that interested individuals should wait for more information to come out.

As a result, there are a lot of people with their eyes fixed on MIT’s EmTech tech conference, which is expected to provide information about a collaboration between MIT and Lamborghini. There are a number of possibilities, but a lot of people are expecting it to be news about the follow-up to the Lamborghini Huracan, which would make sense considering the timing for the reveal of its hybrid nature. Regardless, once the news comes out, it seems probable that there will be a wave of discussion, particularly since the tech conference is bound to reveal interesting information about some of the latest technologies being incorporated into Lamborghini cars. Something that is always interesting to a significant segment of car consumers.

What Can People Expect from the Future?

Ultimately, people can expect hybrid cars to become more and more common throughout the car market. After all, there is consumer interest in such vehicles, which is being fueled by the concern for their wallets as well as the concern for the planet. As a result, it is natural for there to be car manufacturers planning to respond to said interest. Already, there are other luxury car manufacturers interested in hybrid cars, which makes Lamborghini’s interest in the same a matter of no wonder. After all, successful companies need to keep up with their competitors, whether their market happens to be luxury cars or any one of the other products and services that can be found out there. However, it will be fascinating to see what sort of products will be created in response to that interest, particularly as car technology continues to become more and more advanced.
