What It's Like to Fly First Class on Singapore Airlines

What is it like to fly first class on Singapore Airlines? There is no doubt that some airlines are offering what you might call the ultimate first class experience these days. Some of them are a bit pricier than others, and that leads a lot of people to ask themselves whether or not the experience is truly worth it. While that's a question that only you can answer for yourself, it is important to know exactly what you should plan on spending, not to mention gaining a better understanding of exactly what you're getting for your money. When it comes to Singapore Airlines and their first class suites, you might be surprised in both cases.

The first thing you're likely to notice is that you have space all to yourself. This isn’t unheard-of in first class, especially when you're talking about a suite. However, the thing that sets this one apart is that it almost looks like a more high-tech version of a first class berth on one of the classic cruise ships from back in the day. It doesn't look like something you would expect to find on an airplane. You have a seat that reclines and there's more than enough room to stretch out in front of you. You don't have to deal with people sitting on either side of you and there's even room in your suite for a separate bed that lays completely flat. That fact alone should be enough to get your attention.

There's also a wide screen television that's attached to the wall in front of you and you can watch virtually anything you want to. It's connected to a satellite and a special package that allows you to stream the most popular movies as well as some good classics. If you prefer, you can simply use headphones to hook up to your favorite tunes and forgo watching TV. It's really all about your personal preferences because there are plenty of options to be enjoyed.

Of course, you also get your fair share of pillows and soft blankets to make the experience something you'll really remember for the rest of your life. You can enjoy your flight in private and you can even order your meal ahead of time from some of the most famous chefs in the world. This can all be done online, giving you the opportunity to get a customized meal that's going to be made just in time for you to eat without it losing its freshness. Having the opportunity to book ahead and get whatever you want as opposed to choosing from a predetermined menu is definitely something new among air carriers.

If you're still not convinced, you might enjoy the fact that you also have a window to look out of if you choose to do so and you can enjoy some luxurious wood trim that really makes you feel like you're more at home than on an aircraft. It's also worth noting that Singapore Airlines only utilizes Airbus A320 aircraft for it's first class service, so you're on an airplane that has an excellent safety record and one that's well known for being large enough to accommodate these types of services.

There's no doubt that this can change everything when it comes to flying long distances from one country to another. Obviously, almost anyone would choose this type of experience for a 12 or 15 hour flight as opposed to being stuck in the middle seat and crammed in between more than 100 other people with your knees stuck underneath your chin.

By now, your mouth might be watering as you think about experiencing all of this for yourself but it's important to remember that if you want these types of amenities, it's going to cost you. When it comes to Singapore Airlines, it's going to cost you a lot. They routinely charge anywhere from $18,000 to $20,000 for people to fly in their first class suites. When you think about the fact that a single round trip airline ticket can cost you as much as a car, that's enough to make most people balk at the decision. Fortunately, you can use your travel miles to knock the cost down so if you travel enough to build up several of them, it is conceivable that you could purchase a ticket for a first class suite on Singapore Airlines for somewhere in the neighborhood of $500. Just don't expect to be able to do it on a routine basis.
