10 of the Most Inspirational Quotes by Judd Apatow

If you’re a fan of the type of off the wall comedies that have been hitting the scene for the past decade and more then it’s likely that you’ve seen at least a few of Judd Apatow’s infamous plot lines. He’s been a comic, a producer, a writer, and a director in his long career, and has made a living by being funny and being able to write the same type of material that he enjoyed showcasing in his own comic bits as a younger man. It goes without saying that he’s a rare talent in the film industry, not to mention a very amusing and humble person that has done a great deal for those he works with. Considering how much he’s made people laugh, it’s not hard to imagine how his life has become an inspiration for so many.

Here are 10 inspirational quotes by Judd Apatow:

10. “I think that everything I tend to do roots for the underdog.”

Looking at Apatow you probably wouldn’t think he looks like much, but then you would be doing him and yourself a great disservice. In terms of looks and anything other than comedic relief he does in fact appear to have been shortchanged. When it comes to his comedic mind and ability to understand the intricacies of how to place those routines into a film he has very few peers that could do the same. He most definitely projects his desire to see the little guy, or the awkward person, come out on top.

9. “I always see other people as predecessors and admire them.”

Apatow has been known to hang around some of the most famous names in the industry despite the fact that he has for some time been their equal in many ways. His own fame has not been able to quell his humble nature thankfully, and he fully appreciates the chance to work with those who are drawn to him on a professional and personal level. This quality alone is what makes him seem so very special when it comes to what he’s shown the world thus far.

8. “It’s so difficult to shock America these days.”

It might be difficult, but Apatow has definitely hit the mark. With his many movies it is more than apparent that he has the formula needed to make people’s eyes pop and their jaws hang open as they continue to watch his films. His brand of comedy is sometimes a bit hard to understand and even harder to really encompass, but regardless of this people still keep watching. So that must mean he’s doing something very right.

7. “People like the comedy more when they care about the characters.”

Any character in a film is often more well-liked when the audience is made to care about them. If you don’t care about the character then it wouldn’t matter if they told the most hands down funny joke in the world, you wouldn’t be likely to listen. Apatow’s characters are often so endearing that you can’t help but root for them or wait for them to get their comeuppance at some point in the movie.

6. “For me, until I know that the audience really gets what I’m trying to communicate I’m not done.”

It’s easy to see the work that Apatow puts into his films. Each joke is timed perfectly, each line is crafted so that if the actors hit their marks it will produce a result that is hard to replicate but is absolutely hilarious or touching as it needs to be. While a few of his films have been on the corny side to be sure, most of the time he is so dead on with his designs that the audience is held in absolute rapture until that perfect moment hits, and then the tears or the laughter begin in earnest. This man knows his craft and is an expert at giving the audience everything he has to offer.

5. “I think a lot of Hollywood is in retreat right now trying to figure out how to make money and make the safest bets.”

There are moments when Hollywood seems to stand still and produce little more than the run of the mill films s that are all quantity and no quality. It’s like throwing hamburger to a dog that fancies prime rib, it’s there to keep them busy and sated for the moment. Apatow has done his fair share of producing films that aren’t up to his usual caliber, but in most ways he still puts as much as he can into each effort, if only to show the people that he is still doing what he can with the limited resources available.

4. “Well, every movie is an experiment. And the only way you can grow at what you’re doing is to take chances. You can’t try to stick with what worked last time.”

This is something that Apatow excels at. He has had his share of failures for sure, but he has still come back from them with something better each time. It’s no doubt been a struggle to replicate or even top the success of films like “Knocked Up”, or “The 40-Year Old Virgin”, but somehow he keeps coming back and finds ways to keep the comedy fresh.

3. “To me, I’ve never understood why there is any question about are women as funny as men.”

The rise of women comics has been ongoing now for some time. Like men they come and go when it comes how funny they can be. After, not everyone can be on point like Wanda Sykes or Monique or even Amy Poehler or even Tina Fey. Women are still just as funny as men, as his films show very easily. Even Katherine Heigl and Apatow’s wife, Leslie Mann, manage to get in a few cracks now and again.

2. “I still feel like a nerd.”

His looks might suggest this, as does his taste in films. It stands to reason that the definition of the term “nerd” might need to be redefined if it still applies to men like Apatow. Despite his seeming love affair with the underdog genre and the incessant need to pull a come from behind victory in so many movies, he’s quite good at showcasing how his characters are anything but nerds.

1. “I’m the guy who gets uncomfortable. That’s why I was able to write ‘The 40-Year-Old Virgin’ and ‘Knocked Up.’ I believe in those guys.”

It’s said to write what you know, and if that’s the truth the new see a lot of Apatow’s personality. He roots for the underdog, he has troubles speaking to others, and he needs that extra little push to get out and make himself known. If that’s the case then someone must have been pushing pretty hard as Apatow is one of the most popular names in Hollywood.

It’s easy now to see where Judd Apatow gets his inspiration for his movies. All he needs to do is look in the mirror each day and remind himself of who he’s rooting for, and the magic seems to happen. Sometimes inspiration is just a reflection of the hidden wonders that people have yet to reveal.
