2019 Bentley Continental GT Convertible: What We Know So Far

Bentley is one of the few luxury brands that are respected for their quality luxury car designs. As demand for luxury cars that have a unique and appealing appearance increases, manufacturers are doing all they can to update their designs each year. Moreover, the desire for clean and powerful engines has also spurred growth for EV. However, the technology is yet to reach its peak, which is why it’s hard to predict whether a manufacturer will choose to go for a full EV, a hybrid, or maintain the original gas engine design. In this article, we are going to look at what we know so far about the 2019 Bentley Continental GT Convertible.

During the 2017 Frankfurt auto show, Bentley unveiled its redesigned Continental GT, and we now have photos of the Continental GT Convertible prototype. The prototype didn’t have any camouflage, which means it’s almost ready for production, and may be on sale towards the end of the year as a 2019 Bentley model. Generally, it resembles the Continental GT coupe, but still you can easily distinguish it, thanks to its convertible top. Moreover, we have seen shots where they appear side by side, which makes it easy to compare and contrast the two designs.

Underneath the pretty exterior, they used a modular platform from Volkswagen Group, which they branded the “MSB.” The MSB platform was first featured in the 2017 Porsche Panamera. Its pros include enabling a lightweight design and being compatible with multiple powertrains, which is important as car designs attempt to accommodate EV car designs. A 6.0-liter W-12 twin-turbocharged engine powers the 2019 Bentley Continental GT Convertible. It supplies 626 horsepower and 664 pound-feet, which also includes cylinder deactivation. Other notable features are the coasting and start-stop capabilities, which help to save fuel. The engine is paired up with an all-wheel-drive system and an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission design.

There are also plans to introduce a plug-in hybrid or a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 into the Continental GT range once the launch is successful. There are also plans to make a GT Speed model, which will output more than the current 633 hp.

The interior of the 2019 Bentley looks as great as the exterior, a combination of leather and wooden decor give it a luxurious look that is easy to maintain. While the wooden finish isn’t extensive, it’s enough to standout. The 12.3-inch infotainment screen designed as part of a 3-sided rotating unit, which also includes a book-matched piece of wooden veneer and three analog gauges. That design makes its cabin not just modern, but also a conversation starter.

One of the notable exterior features when sitting inside the cabin is the side mirrors. They are large than average, which is a great safety feature. However, they also tend to be on the extreme end of the scale, which some might not consider a plus. After, cars are designed to look beautiful, not just safe. When it comes to the main door glass, they have used a separator that allows the glass to go all the way down, which is a bit old-fashioned, considering it was used in the R-Type ages ago.

If you have an eye for detail, you will notice the legitimate use of Rolls-Royce air-conditioning outlets. The elegant design allows one of the outlet ribs to align with the chrome trim beneath the wooden finish. While the steering wheel is about to become a novelty in car designs, they have designed to have simple look, save for its color them. Apart from its hub that’s off-center, it doesn’t have any bumps, humps, or variation in surface material. However, it does give that feeling that you will enjoy steering it.

Looking at the 2019 Bentley from the sides, you can’t help but notice that it has been designed to “road-dive” as you drive. It also includes an indentation just below its styling lines, especially along the rear fender profile. When it comes to its hood, viewing it from the side gives you the impression that because the hood is small, the car is also small-sized, which isn’t true. Looking at it from the small and medium sized headlamps bring out the Bentley morphology, which is a truly artistic finish. Overall, the 2019 Bentley design hasn’t disappointed Bentley fans.

We hope that you found this article to be quite revealing, and you look forward to the 2019 Bentley Continental GT going on sale.
