The slim, wicked-looking headlights and pleasingly geometric turn signal lights add to this naked motorcycle’s overall sleek, almost futuristic appeal. Everything about the 2021 Aprilia Tuono V4 is made to appreciate, from its speed and handling to its looks and feel. Even the windscreen is made with a more pleasant ride in mind. This year’s screen is taller and has side panels. Meanwhile, the Pirelli Diablo Rosso III tires give great traction on the street or highway. Notably, the factory model has a 120-series Supercorsa front tire and a Pirelli Supercorsa rear tire, but both versions make for a fantastic ride.
The Strangest Thing
Okay, so Aprilias are outstanding bikes that handle well. They stand out in a crowd because of their minimalistic style, and they can race like their back end is on fire, but the oddest thing about Aprilias is a little-known feature. You could go cruising on one. Thats right, the 2021 Aprilia Tuono V4 has cruise control. You obviously can’t use that feature to win any races, but it’s a bizarrely thoughtful detail for riders who like speed and sometimes have a longer, slower ride ahead. Most superbike manufacturers aren’t focused on consumer models being made for the scenic route. Of course, most of them aren’t winning as many Superbike races, so perhaps Aprilia is so good at going fast it needed another challenge.
Once you look at the 2021 Aprilia Tuono V4, you’ll probably notice the displays right away. According to Aprilia itself, the APRC control system is modeled after those used in racing. The brains on this bike are a thing of beauty. The Magneti Marelli 11MP ECU has four times the computing speed with its upgraded hundred-forty-four pins, unlike previous models, which only had around eighty. You’ll find both traction and cruise control on the handlebars for rider comfort and quick access. Wheelie control, pit speed limiter, six riding modes, and ride-by-wire throttle control round out the impressive digital (clutchless) suite.
The updated, inverted swingarm is greatly improved too. This is as far from the generic bikes you see teens putting around on as the mars rover is from a toaster.
While its undeniable that Aprilia had some recurring issues in the 1990s that sullied its good name, Piaggio acquired the company back in 2004 and turned all that around. Since then, the Aprilia models seem to get better with every passing year. The 2021 Aprilia is no exception. As bare-bones as this bike is, sleek and no-frills is often a good thing in this case.
