A Closer Look at the 2019 Mercedes-AMG G63

Mercedes-Benz is a name that has long been associated with top-of-the-line luxury vehicles. They usually offer competitive performance and handling and can hold their own against any similar brands. Ever since 1926, Mercedes-Benz vehicles have been synonymous with speed, power, and maneuverability that stand as a strong testament to their German engineering. If you know anything about Mercedes-Benz SUVs, you have likely heard of the G-Class. This is a mid-size four-wheel drive luxury SUV. They are manufactured in Austria to the highest specifications. This class has been around since 1979 and boasts some great performance and power.

The most recent G-Class SUV released – the G-Class W464 – boasts a little over 420 horsepower and an insane amount of torque. However, Mercedes-Benz is upping the ante yet again with a new model that will be released sometime this year. Known as the Mercedes-AMG G63, this update of the G-Class will bring it to new heights. Read on to learn what we know so far about this new release from Mercedes.

The Body

This renewed G-Class may, on the surface, appear similar to other vehicles of this type. However, it will now boast some flared wheel arches and an aesthetically-customized front end and grille. Overall, it retains the boxy and indestructible vibe of the older vehicle model while bringing a little more uniqueness to this ride. It looks classy, strong, and sleek.

The Motor, Transmission, and Drivetrain

The G-Class was already making a considerable amount of horsepower. With the new 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 included in the G63 it will make over 570 horsepower. In addition, the torque ratings have been increased to 627 foot-pounds. This thing is going to fly, whether you are on or off of the road. The newest G63 will also have a dual-flow exhaust with side pipes. This will help the motor breathe a little easier and thus make extra power. In fact, the 2019 Mercedes-AMG G63 has already boasted zero-to-sixty times of less than 5 seconds – an impressive feat for this boxy SUV.

All of this power will be hooked up to a nine-speed automatic transmission. This will allow the vehicle power to all four wheels through their proprietary AMG Performance 4matic all-wheel-drive system. It offers rear-biased torque distribution and electronically-locking differentials. Also worth noting is the updated front end. It will no longer have a live front axle. Instead, the newest G63 will have an independent setup. However, the manufacturer has assured customers that off-road performance will not be impacted by this changed system.

The Interior

The entire interior of the 2019 G63 has been renewed. It will retain the cushy comfort of any Mercedes-Benz vehicle. However, it will also include a flat-bottomed performance steering wheel that will make it a little easier to handle all of that power. Of course, you can’t talk about a Mercedes unless you mention the Benz Designo program. This is a way that you can customize the interior of your vehicle to your exact specifications. No matter what you may choose to include, you can be sure that your vehicle will be wholly unique and distinctly yours.

The manufacturer has also listened to their customers’ complaints about legroom. The new G63 will include a lot of extra room so that your driving experience will be as pleasant as possible. This extra space won’t come at any cost of performance or durability, however. Other options that might be included are heated seats, a digital dashboard with integrated multimedia support, and even active air chambers in the seats that will fill or empty depending on what particular characteristics are needed at the time. For example, it may fill to give the G63 more lateral support during a turn.

The Price

The highest quality vehicles tend to come at an exclusive and premium cost. While no official price has yet been revealed, we can guess that it will be around $140,000 to $150,000. This isn’t too bad for such a powerful and durable vehicle, however.

The Verdict

So far, the Mercedes-AMG G63 is shaping up to be a top competitor in the luxury SUV field. It boasts a good design, incredible power, and marked viability for off-road use. Plus, the updated interior means that you will be traveling in style. All-in-all, if you can afford the six-figure price tag that one of these new Mercedes will come with, this vehicle would be a solid choice for basically any application.
