Alfa Romeo is delivering a new extremely limited special edition for 2020 in the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Italia. It’s going to be an extremely rare vehicle from the time of its manufacture in brand new condition. A collector’s edition for certain but will it deliver on any other aspect of value? We’ve heard pros and cons muttered about the upcoming special model and after taking a closer look at what is to come this is what we discovered.
A new model beyond the surprise of the 2019
The automakers production of a 2019 model of the Alfa Romeo 4C was a surprise and they seem to have all kinds of cards up their sleeve with the new 2020 that was unveiled at the Chicago auto show. The new edition will only be available to just 15 customers. It’s been called their lackluster yet rare presentation. From reviews it’s obvious that there is a measure of disappointment with their latest offering, but expectations for the unexpected continuation of the line may have been placed a bit higher than the reality of what is deliverable. On the other hand, would it have hurt the design team to go all out for such a limited edition?
The claims of the brand
Alfa is calling their limited edition Italia the latest rendering “inspired by the brand’s legendary racing history.” The worlds carry with them excitement that builds anticipation to fairly high levels. The major factors involved in negative reviews are the fact that the modifications of the popular vehicle didn’t take it over the top. One thing that they did do is to apply a Misano Blue Metallic paint which n itself is exclusive. Critics fire back and point out that the paint that is claimed to be “exclusive” was also offered on Stelvio and Giulia models and it’s been around for a few years. This just happens to be the first time that it’s being offered on a 4C model. Perhaps the use of the “exclusive” term was a bit of a stretch. Let’s give them some credit for the gloss black paint that they’ve applied to the rear diffuser and the front air intakes. Even the small details count when you have a collectible on your hands. They’ve placed an Italian flag graphic with the name printed on a sticker on each side. It’s kind of a cool aesthetic, but it’s just not what the gang was expecting from them.
The interior of the special edition 2020 is getting an upgrade on two items that distinguish the limited run cars from all the other 4C Italias. They’ve applied an aluminum panel located on the dash on the passenger side with the indication 4C Italia as well as a center console plaque that contains the serial number of the car. Having said this, there really haven’t been any other changes made. You can’t really call it an upgrade either, it’s just something new. Alfa has retained the carbon fiber and plastic trim and the same outdated head unit has been kept as well.
What is going to be optional on the new Italia 4C Spider?
The 2020 Italia will come with some options that you won’t see on the standard 4C Spider. You can order yours with micro suede trimmed seats, yellow brake calipers, an Akrapovic center exit exhaust system and well, that’s about it.
Pricing for the new limited edition
The new 2020 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Italia is scheduled to retail for a price tag of $73,495. It’s just a $5,000 jump from the standard edition of the car so it’s not that big of a boost in the cost. There are some fans of the brand that are just happy that there is a new limited edition coming out but then you have those who are very disappointed in the lack of upgrades and cool new stuff that the design team could have added to the car. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and before the car has even been released for sale, it’s already begun its fair share of controversy.
