A Closer Look at The A. Lange & Söhne Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase “25th Anniversary”

For people, being together for a long time is such a big deal that they go out of their way to celebrate their anniversaries. Companies also mark these special occasions; it is, after all, a big feat to be in business for years and still have a promising future. Lange & Söhne is marking the 25th anniversary of the Lange 1 by releasing commemorative watches in 10 sets instead of only one special edition. The first one, Lange 1 “25th Anniversary” was already released in January and the second one, Moon Phase “25th Anniversary” is here. The new arrival is similar to Lange 1 in most ways, and only 25 will be available while every month until October 2019, they will release another set of watches. So how about we take a closer look at the A. Lange & Söhne Grande Lange 1 Moon phase ’25th Anniversary’ released in February 2019.

The technical bits

The Grande Lange 1 Moon Phase “25th Anniversary” comes in a white gold case that measures 41 mm in diameter and 9.4 mm in thickness; a size that most buyers prefer. As with any other non-Lumen counterparts it has maintained the dimensions, polished bezel as well as screw-in lugs. The 9.4 mm width facilitates its sliding under any tight cuff without encumbering the wearer. The case’s white gold is complemented by the dial’s solid silver with an argente finish while the moon disc is solid white gold accompanied by hand engraving. A. Lange & Söhne have made a name for themselves in the high-end market with the moon phase discs which have become unparalleled.

While the moon phase adds to its complication without necessarily being a fundamental part of any watch; its presence serves an aesthetic purpose that infuses a little romance in it since you can stare into the display and get lost in your thoughts. Its elegance is taken a notch higher by the alligator leather strap which is in blue while the white gold prong buckle keeps the watch comfortably in place. The strap’s grey stitching further enhances the designer’s attention to detail. The dial has gone with the asymmetrical layout we have come to recognize as part of the Lange 1 watches in which the locations of the centres of the main dial, seconds sub-dial and big date indicator are in such a way that they make an imaginary isosceles triangle.

Movement

Just like one of its predecessors, the Grande Lange 1 Moon Phase “25th Anniversary” has an in-house manufactured Calibre L095.3 that comprises 446 parts and 45 jewels of which seven are screwed in gold chatons. Its Calibre L095.3 provides you with a power reserve lasting three days, as indicated by the “GANGRESERVE 72 STUNNED” while operating at a 3Hz beat rate. You can account for your time through the hours, minutes, seconds, and big date indicator enabled by the movement.

You can easily see the movement, carrying dimensions of 34.1 mm in diameter and 4.7 mm in thickness through the display case back. While the view of the movement is just an extra the watch affords its wearer, the lengths the designers have gone to craft it is undeniably stunning; enough to leave you with a sight that is just breathtaking.

Price

As with other Grande Lange 1 Moon Phase watches, owning a piece is quite an investment you should prepare for seeing that it means parting with thousands of Euros. For you to have this 25th-anniversary edition, you will have to part with 45,800 Euros which we can say is reasonable considering that only 25 pieces are available.

Conclusion

Lange & Söhne is committed to bringing out the elegance in timepieces, and they never disappoint with the models they release. Every part of the watch is carefully crafted to have a watch that speaks for itself and leaves most buyers dazzled as to how a single item can have so much class. Although some men would like to have a watch that feels masculine, maybe with bigger straps and thicker cases, the Grande Lange 1 Moon Phase “25th Anniversary” has still managed to impress them. The watch does not have any significant flaws to make anyone change their mind about having it as their most preferred timepiece. Fortunately, even if you fail to get this one, in particular, you have eight more months to help A. Lange & Söhne celebrate its 25th anniversary.
