The Chevrolet automakers have had a long history with the Camaro and the American public has been involved in a long love affair with the vehicle. They’ve brought it back for 2019 sweeter than ever and the new Camaro has even more to offer with its updating and increase in speed. Chevrolet claims that the new automatic version is going to outrun the manual edition.
The new Chevrolet Camaro ZL1-1LE
The brand is making a bold statement about the new automatic thatcan outdo the manual on the track and it’s because of their tinkering with the 10 speed automatic transmission that was made for the ZL1 Supercharged model. The 1LE package is designed to be heavily track focused. It was only available in the six speed manual edition previously. It’s a daring venture that will add an extra $1,595 to the base price of $72,195 that the new Camaro 1LE is scheduled to go for. It’s for those who are hell bent on speed and high performance. Somehow we don’t think they’re going to have any problem moving them.
Test results for the new 2019 Camaro
The new speedster was taken out for a test drive and pitted against the manual Camaro and it came in by just a half second ahead of the manual. One of the more notable features was the increase in acceleration power in the automatic. It beat the manual in a zero to 60 match by 3.4 seconds. This is an impressive show for the new car that has taken what was already good and turned it into something amazing. For the record, the car that out-accelerated the manual 6 speed was a non 1LE vehicle. The expectation is that putting the new 10 speed tranny into the 1LE is going to add yet another second onto the differential test trial time.
How Chevrolet accomplished this feat
Chevy explained that they took the 10 speed automatic transmission that was intended for use in the 1LE and gave it a refresh and update with an additional cooling duct proprietary for the steering gear and gave it a new transmission oil pan. They also optimized the tuning to more precisely match it with the multi mode stability control system and the electronic limited slip differential. They re-calibrated the transmission specifically for use with the 2019 1LE. They took their time on this one to determine which areas needed to be tweaked to achieve the maximum possible speed and performance.
The 10 speed transmission paired with a supercharged engine
The engineers and design team saw fit to match the updated 10 speed automatic transmission with a 6.2 liter V-8 supercharged engine that achieves an output of 650 horse power. They also upgraded the tires to the Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R and they’ve made a few adjustments to cut back on the weight to produce a super fast version of the Camaro as their contribution to the new year in an improved model if you’re one of those drivers who love the feel of speed but don’t want to sacrifice control in exchange.
It isn’t every year that a highly desired vehicle such as the Chevrolet Camaro gets an upgrade. We’ve seen some models go several years without improving on what’s working just fine, but the makers of the 2019 1LE took advantage of the timing which was right to go out and do something pretty spectacular for their new model. This is a car that has been highly anticipated and from what we’ve seen it’s not going to let anyone down. The aesthetics are out of this world and it has an attractive appeal that is sexy and daring. it has the look of a racer that can tear up both road and track and not even breathe hard in the process. If you’re in the market for a new supercar then get ready because the new Camaro ZL1 1LE has just been released in February of 2019.
