Watchmaker Stephen Forsey was recently in Basel and the co-founder of the Greubel Forsey company was there for the introduction of their new Super watch for 2019. The Greubel Forsey Quadruple Tourbillon GMT made its initial appearance to the world. An evolutionary piece which boasts a GMT complication, we can see in the first release of the photographs that it’s a complicated piece that is truly breathtaking to behold. It’s deserving of a closer look and inspection to truly appreciate he skill and precision that has gone into the crafting of his unique time piece.
The new Greubel Forsey Mega watch
Upon first glance the front of this watch is busy. The face is not a traditional presentation of what most consider a wrist watch to be. It’s one of the most over the top renditions featuring two double tourbillons along with a universal time display and a world time function that you’ll notice on the lower left quadrant of the face. The two time zones are a nice touch and they cover all of the bases making this watch ideal for the jet setting crowd. It’s worth noting that the globe is a rotating type and this lends a more novel note to its personality. It’s a fun watch yet quite serious. The Universal time is one 24 time zones. You notice the equator and southern hemisphere shown through the lateral window. Pushers were added for the GMT.
The case of the Quadruple Tourbillon is crafted in white gold in this special and unique edition. The bezel is thin and highly polished to a mirror finish and its unusual shape is somewhat round with the four concentric circles on the watch face extending outward with the bezel molded neatly around them.
When you flip this watch around the case back is just as novel and functional as he front. It features a fixed 24 hour scale highlighting day and night zones. There is a disk that contains the 24 cities as representatives of the various time zones abbreviated in three letters. In addition to this feature, the exhibition case back also allows you to see the delicate workings of the tourbillon. The magnificent quadruple tourbillon is crafted with frosted bridges and the gold chatons have jewels inset within them. The designers used two convex sapphire crystals to cover both the case back and the dial.
The movement which powers he Quadruple Tourbillon is a new innovation in a hand wound styling and the caliber contains 705 different parts. This is an astounding technical piece that also includes triple fast rotating barrels. The functions of the watch are GMT, tourbillon, hours, minutes, small seconds and the power reserve of approximately 72 hours.
Pricing and availability
We’ve just received our first sneak peek at the photos of the new release which we believe is scheduled to be made available at some point during the 2019 year. The watchmaker has not yet released any information about when we can expect to see the watch offered for retail sale. We do know that this is a very special and unique high-end collectible time piece. Although there has not yet been a price associated with the watch, we can assume by looking at some other close examples that it will come at a price of somewhere in the hundreds of thousands.
This specific watch is destined to be a rare collectible from the moment of its release. We’ve not yet learned about how many examples of his unique edition that the Greubel Forsey company plans to release. It’s highly likely that it is going to be produced in a strictly limited run, but again, we’ll have to wait until there’s another press release. For now, we’re pleased to know that there is something very special coming in the near future. Until more information is provided, keep your eyes and ears open and you can check on the official website at www.greubelforsey.com
