David T. Norton is a partner and head of the aviation practice at the law firm of Shackelford, Bowen, McKinley & Norton, LLP in Dallas. His internationally recognized practice focuses solely on aviation law encompassing a broad range of business aviation regulatory, risk management, transactional, tax, and commercial dispute resolution issues. Active in many business aviation industry-related committees and groups, he is a past Chair of the Aviation Section of the State Bar of Texas, and is an advisory board member for the Journal of Air Law & Commerce. He is a graduate of the USAF Academy, and holds an MBA from Louisiana Tech University and a JD from SMU. David was a regular commissioned officer in the U.S. Air Force, serving primarily as a KC-10A pilot and aircraft commander. He also holds many civil certificates issued by the FAA. He is a multi-engine airline transport pilot with a DC-10 type rating and a single-engine commercial pilot. He also maintains certification as a certified flight instructor, instrument and multi-engine, as well as an advanced ground and instrument instructor. The Shackelford aviation law practice has a deep well of aviation industry and aviation law experience, helping clients with all of the legal aspects of the purchase, sale, operations, leasing, management and financing of their aircraft and aircraft-related businesses.
