Why You Should Consider a Barclay Credit Card

barclays

Barclay offers a range of credit cards, from those that come with rewards systems to cards geared towards travelers and business owners. If you’re looking for a new credit card with straightforward terms that’s backed a leading name in the industry, looking through the selection offered by Barclay is a smart move. It’s also advantageous that the vast majority of cards available from this issuer come with no annual fee.

Here are five of the top Barclay credit cards available.

1. Barclaycard Rewards MasterCard

This Barclay credit card comes with a good rewards system that awards double points per dollar spent at gas stations, grocery stores, and on utilities. Since these are things that most people routinely shop for, earning points is quick and easy. For all other types of purchases you’ll earn one point per dollar spent. In addition, cardholders get free access to their FICO score and the card is available to people who have at least fair credit. The option to redeem rewards starts at 1,000 points, which is equivalent to $10 back.

Best for: Those with fair credit who want a rewards credit card with no annual fee. The APR is on the high side, but that’s the case in general for credit cards aimed at people with lower scores. If you have at least good credit, you should skip this card and consider one of Barclay’s options with a better rate.

APR: variable 25.24%

Annual Fee: $0

2. Barclaycard Arrival Plus World Elite MasterCard

This Barclay credit card is great for travelers and the sign-up bonus makes it well worth a look. You’ll earn a flat two miles per dollar spent on any purchase. When you redeem your miles you’ll receive a 5% bonus, which bumps up the rewards rate to 2.1%. New cardholders are eligible to receive 50,000 bonus miles after spending at least $3,000 within 90 days of opening an account, which is equivalent to a $500 credit.

Points can be redeemed for travel statement credits, which cover purchases related to hotels, car rentals, train and airfare, and taxis. Additional perks include no foreign transaction fees, complimentary access to your FICO score, and 24/7 access to the MasterCard World Elite travel concierge.

Best for: Those who frequently travel, as the points system for this car is good for travel statement credits.

APR: variable 16.24%, 20.24% or 23.24%

Annual Fee: $0 for the first year, $89 per year thereafter. The introductory APR for balance transfers is 0% for the first 12 months, as long as the transfer is made within 45 days of opening an account.

3. Wyndham Rewards Visa Card

If you regularly stay at Wyndham hotels and vacation properties, you’ll definitely be interested in this Barclay credit card. It awards three points per dollar spent at participating hotels and two points per dollar spent at gas stations, grocery stores, and for utilities. It’s important to note that Target and Walmart are excluded from the list of grocery stores, so those who do most of their shopping at those retailers may want to opt for a different Barclay card.

The introductory bonus for this card rewards 15,000 points after your first purchase, regardless the amount. This is a big change from most other bonus points offers and is very easy to obtain.

Best for: Anyone who prefers to stay at Wyndham hotels and travels often for work or pleasure.

APR: variable 15.49%, 20.24% or 25.24%

Annual Fee: $0

4. Barclaycard CashForward World MasterCard

The Barclaycard CashForward card has a simple rewards system and is one of the few Barclay options that offers cash rewards. Cardholders earn 1.5% cash back on all purchases, regardless the type. You’ll also receive a 5% redemption bonus when you cash in your points, and the sign up bonus is also great. If you spend at least $500 on purchases in the first 90 days after opening an account, you’ll earn a $100 cash rewards bonus.

If you use the card for everyday spending you can easily rack up hundreds of dollars in cash rewards each year. There’s no limit to the amount of cash back that you can earn, and as long as your account is open your rewards won’t expire.

Best for: People who have excellent credit and want a card that offers cash rewards.

APR: variable 14.99%, 19.99% or 24.99%. The introductory APR for balance transfers is 0% for the first 15 months, as long as the transfer is made within 45 days of opening an account.

5. Choice Privileges Visa Signature Card

Individuals who prefer to go with Choice Hotels when they travel will reap the most benefits from this Barclay credit card. The Choice Privileges Visa Signature card awards a whopping 15 points per dollar spent at Choice Privileges properties as long as you have a Choice Privileges membership. You’ll also receive five points per dollar spent when you buy Choice Privileges points and Choice Hotel gift cards, plus you’ll earn a 10% points bonus when you stay at select properties.

Elite Gold Status is automatically granted once you’re approved for this card, which will allow you to book your free hotel stays 50 days in advance instead of the standard 30 days. Cardholders also gain access to a travel concierge, and the sign up bonus for this card is appealing. If you spend at least $1,000 on purchases during the first 90 days after opening an account, you’ll earn 32,000 bonus points — that’s the equivalent of a free four night stay.

Best for: Those who travel throughout the year and like staying at Choice Hotels. Redemption options include a wide variety of digital gift cards or free nights at select hotel properties.
