Kovalam Beach

When you are looking at visiting some of the beaches that are located on the southern border of India, you are bound to hear of Kovalam Beach. Ranked as one of the most popular beaches in the area, its clear blue waters, white sands, and array of coconut palms will entice you like no other. Here at Kovalam, you will more than likely see the majority of visitors just catching rays in the sand or swimming, as the majority of water sports and other sailing activities are not permitted due to high tides.

Marari Beach

If you are looking for a beach that has it all, including all of the numerous water activities that you can enjoy, then Marari Beach may be a good destination to start. The beach itself is a newer beach in terms of becoming a tourist hotspot when visiting Southern India, but its serene atmosphere and welcoming waters from the Arabian Sea give away why it has become so popular. Unlike some of the other beaches that we will look at on our list, Marari Beach is not nearly as crowded, meaning that you will get more rest and relaxation than at some of the other places.

Alleppey Beach

Highly ranked as one of the best and top beaches in the southern region of India, Alleppey Beach has a scene all of its own. This beach is actually located in the Alappuzha district, and is surrounded by crossing bodies of water, including lakes and ponds. Because of the calmer waters, this area is best known for its boat races, and well as its bevvy of houseboats that reside near the beautiful beach. Here, you can also take in several other activities, such as water skiing, sailing, and of course, swimming in the calm and soothing waters.

Om Beach

If you are looking for a beach that has a sense of adventure to it, you might want to take a look at visiting Om Beach. Located in Gokarna, Karnataka, this beach is filled with small caves and caverns that are perfecting for exploration. The beach actually inherited its name thanks to the two crescent shaped rock structures that form part of the beach, and look similar to the Hindu symbol called ‘Om’. These beach not only has opportunities for exploration and adventure, but also allows for several different water sports and even banana boat rides as well.

Mahabalipuram Beach

Last but not least, we come to Mahabalipuram Beach. This beach is located in Chennai, Tamilnadu, and the serenity of the area speaks for itself. The beach itself lies near the Bay of Bengal, and also begins to border the sea, giving for wondrous and amazing views while you relax in the sunshine. However, if you are planning a family vacation, this may not be the best beach for those with little children. Because of the high tides and rough waters brought on by the sea, the area typically does not permit swimming and other water sport activities. Rather, this is a beach that is best for the day away to rest and relax on the sand, lying in the sun and letting your cares float away.
