The 10 Best Car Insurance Companies of 2021

Geico

Everyone has slightly different requirements when it comes to car insurance, but the best insurance companies all have certain things in common – they offer excellent customer service, comprehensive policies, a straightforward claims process, and excellent value. Most will also offer a good package of discounts to reward things like safe driving habits. If you’re struggling to find which company offers the best coverage for you, here are the 10 best car insurance companies of 2021.

10. Pure

If you have a luxury or classic car, finding insurance via a traditional provider can be challenging. Fortunately, there’s a solution – Pure. Policies can be customized with agreed value coverage and repairs with original parts are covered – a major advantage for those with rare or high-end cars. Other perks include free worldwide rental car insurance; unlimited roadside service; and no deductible for accidents involving uninsured drivers. On the flip side, it’s expensive in comparison to traditional providers and can only be arranged through brokers, rather than online.

9. Titan

If you’re struggling to get insurance because of your driving history, Titan makes a solid option. It offers a wide range of coverage options for high-risk drivers, including gap, roadside service, and non-owner coverage. For those on a budget, it also offers incredibly cost-effective state-minimum policies, together with multiple discounts that let you save up to 15% on the standard price. It’s not all great news (it’s only available in 23 states, there’s no mobile app and no online claims), but if you’ve tried other providers and been turned out, this is a safe, dependable option.

8. Allstate

Allstate is an excellent all-rounder, with an extensive range of coverage options, steep discounts on bundles, high ratings for customer service, and a nice little collection of perks for luxury car owners. Both new car protection and accident forgiveness are offered, and there’s a chance to save up to 25% on home insurance and 10% on car insurance if you bundle the coverage.

7. Liberty Mutual

Young and teenage drivers usually draw the short straw when it comes to affordable coverage, but Liberty Mutual offers highly competitive rates and discounts for that exact demographic. It’s not necessarily the cheapest provider for other types of drivers, but it still offers some attractive discounts for homeowners, military, and safe drivers. Alongside the standard coverages types (comprehensive, personal injury protection (PIP), liability, collision, medical payments and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage), it also offers a good selection of add-on options, including original parts replacement, better car replacement, rental car reimbursement, and 24-hour roadside assistance

6. Amica

Voted as one of the best insurance companies for customer satisfaction by Finder.com, Amica is a great all-rounder with some very appealing plus points. Along with excellent customer service, it offers superb discounts for bundling policies (if you combine car, home, or renters policy with them, you stand to save up to 30% in total); there’s no deductible for lock replacement or glass repairs; and you stand to earn dividends when the company turns a profit. It’s not the cheapest insurance provider out there, but it offers plenty of bang for your buck.

5. State Farm

Available in 48 states (the exceptions being Massachusetts and Rhode Island), State Farm is a long-established, reputable provider with an excellent selection of coverage types. It’s particularly impressive when it comes to students, who stand to benefit from the safe driving discounts available to young drivers. These include the Drive Safe & Save discount, which tracks safe driving habits through State Farm’s mobile app and rewards safe drivers with premium discounts of up to 30%, and Steer Clear, which offers teens and new drivers a discount if they successfully complete a driver safety course. Other than its young driver discounts, State Farm also offers loyal customer discounts and safe vehicle discounts, amongst others. Additional options include rideshare driver coverage, car rental, and travel expenses coverage, and emergency road service coverage.

4. Metromile

Low mileage drivers with minimal claims history stand to get a great deal with Metromile. Unlike most other insurance companies, Metromile only charges for the miles you drive, making it an excellent alternative to traditional flat-rate policies for people who only tend to drive locally. The savings will be steepest for safe drivers considered high risk by traditional providers because of factors like age or location. Unfortunately, it’s a relatively new service and so far has only rolled out to 7 states, but watch this space for nationwide coverage in the near future.

3. Progressive

Named as the best insurance company for high-risk drivers by MarketWatch, Progressive is a long-standing insurance provider that offers some of the lowest rates on the market for drivers with multiple driving violations. It also offers a wide range of discounts and options that will help its customers lower their premiums even further, including a safe driving discount that tracks and records driver behavior through the mobile app and rewards good driving behaviors. In addition to the standard cover types, Progressive also offers options for loan/lease payoff, rideshare coverage, rental car reimbursement, roadside assistance, and custom parts and equipment value.

2. USAA

Named as one of the best insurance companies by US News, USAA has reputation for its excellent customer satisfaction ratings and value. Discounts are available based on factors such as driver safety, auto safety features, and multiple policies. Despite having only a limited number of physical locations, its customer service regularly tops the ratings, recording some of the lowest numbers of complaints of any insurance company in the US. Along with the standard types of coverage, it offers an extensive number of add-on options, including accident forgiveness, glass coverage, guaranteed asset protection, car replacement assistance, rental car reimbursement, and roadside assistance. The only downside is the eligibility criteria – only military members and their families are eligible to apply.

1. Geico

Established in 1936, Geico is one of the best all-round insurance providers in the US, offering very competitively priced premiums and numerous options that allow customers to save significantly on their insurance, including a Good Student discount of 15%, a multiple vehicle discount of 25%, and a good driver discount of up to 26%. Along with the standard types of insurance, it also offers various additional options such as rideshare insurance, rental reimbursement, emergency roadside assistance, and mechanical breakdown insurance.
