The Five Best Places to get Pizza in Denver

If you’re planning a trip to Denver, Colorado, and you’re fond of pizza, then you’re in luck. Denver is brimming with restaurants, but it has some of the most amazing pizza eateries in the state. There are five in particular that you need to check out when you’re in the area. We’ve saved the best for last, so here are the 5 best pizza places in Denver in order of great to excellent.

Ernie’s Bar & Pizza

Ernie’s Bar & Pizza has earned a reputation for its simple hand tossed dough that uses a simple recipe that turns out to perfection every time. A combination of yeast, salt, water, flour and extra virgin olive oil is prepared fresh and comes out of the oven with a golden crust and a chewy texture that diners love. The chefs give you a choice of toppings and they’re liberal in adding the ingredients you specify to make a customized pizza fit for a king. The mozzarella cheese is a housemade for a unique flavor that is difficult to find anywhere else, and it helps in making this a memorable place to get a one of a kind pizza that’s hard to replicate exactly.

Esters

Esters is a small restaurant that is nestled in between a group of shops in an older residential part of Virginia Village, and it may not look like a place you’d find the best pizza in the state. If you give it a try, you’ll have to agree that Esters has some unique pizza offerings that will make you want to come back for more. Esters goes the extra mile to offer some of the most unique topping combinations in the city. For example, if you opt for the Mikey, you’ll be thrilled with its fresh mozzarella cheese, house made marinara sauce and spicy pepperoni. The Lawn Boy is an example of their most unique combinations with goat cheese, caramelized onions, Brussels sprouts and bacon. You can also make up your own combination with a large selection of available toppings. While you’re there, don’t forget to check out their extensive list of beers.

Fat Sully’s Restaurant

The fact that there are three locations available in Denver alone is a sign that business is booming for Fat Sully’s. They offer a New York style pizza that starts with a strong bottom crust that is capable of handling the heavy load of toppings that are piled on top. This is a menu choice that should be reserved for big appetites. Although the crust is made thin, they know how to craft it to perfection. The sauce is strongly herbed with fresh ingredients used for the entire thing. If you enjoy a crisp, thin crust and loads of toppings then you’ll enjoy eating pizza at Fat Sully’s.

Hops & Pie

Hops & Pie is the second best pizza place in Denver. The chefs do a remarkable job of preparing the crust to a buttery and crackly perfection. Their pizzas are done in a classic Chicago deep dish style with a sprinkling of cornmeal added to the bottom of their hand tossed dough. This makes it just a little richer than the average dough and it adds a pleasant crunchiness that averages about a half inch in thickness. Hops & Pie makes their own mozzarella and many of the sausage toppings used in-house for a unique and one of a kind flavor. You can choose from Italian sausage, ricotta cheese, mushrooms, olives, smoked ham hock, pastrami, and many more meat, cheese and vegetable toppings. You can also find gluten free versions or vegan pies at Hops & Pie. They’re also known for their beer list.

Racca’s Pizzeria Napoletana

Racca’s Pizzeria Napoletana was formerly known as Marco’s Coal Fired Pizza. You can tell by the name that their expertise is in making the best pizza in town, and that’s what they’re known for. If you only stop by one pizza place in Denver, we recommend Racca’s. They make their pizzas in Neapolitan style, and offer authentic pizza pies with regional distinctions. They offer Piedmont, Emilia Romagna, Tuscany and New York City varieties. Raccas is recognized as an award winning pizzaria with pizza makers trained under a “bona fide master pizzaiolo.” They were certified by the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana which makes this the only certified Neapolitan pizza place in the city.
