When Is The Best Time to Go To Greece?

Crete

Having the chance to travel to an area outside of your home is easily one of the most exciting things in existence. After all, it gives you an opportunity to immerse yourself in a culture that isn’t necessarily like your own, all while taking in some beautiful sights. If you’re really lucky, you’ll get to participate in numerous activities and maybe even catch a bit of the local history. As a result, many people have a desire to travel outside of their home country on a routine basis. One of the most sought-after locations is Greece. You can enjoy a trip to this beautiful country at virtually any time of the year, but it’s important to know when to go in order to get the most out of your journey. The question is, when is the best time to travel there?

Greece- One of the Most Beautiful Countries on Earth

There’s no question that Greece is easily one of the most beautiful countries on Earth, complete with its unique architecture, beautiful weather and seaside communities. That being said, it’s also one of the busiest tourist attractions in the entire world. Therefore, the time of year that you decide to make your visit can literally determine whether you have a good time or end up wishing that you would have gone somewhere else. Typically, you’ll want to choose a time when all of the businesses that revolve around tourism are still open, yet there aren’t as many tourists as there are during the peak months. You also want to consider the weather, as both the temperature and the humidity can become quite uncomfortable during certain times of the year. Ideally, it’s best to visit anywhere from April to early June or during the months of September and October. That’s because both the number of tourists in the country and the temperature dramatically increase during the summer months. Unless you enjoy dealing with hordes of people and you like stifling hot temperatures, you’re probably not going to enjoy your trip as much if you’re there in July and August as you would if you’d go in either the early spring or the autumn.

Different Vacations Call for Visiting at Different Times of the Year

What if you just happen to enjoy the sunshine and you don’t mind hot temperatures? If that’s the case, you might very well enjoy going to Greece in the middle of the summer. The bigger question is, what type of vacation are you looking for? It only makes sense that the specific type of activities you want to do would largely be dictated by the time of year that you visit. Perhaps it would be more correct to say that you need to visit at the specific time of year that allows you to best participate in your desired activities. Look at it this way. Say that you enjoy spending time on the beach and even swimming in the ocean. If that’s your main goal, then you might enjoy it more during the months of July and August, even with the increased number of tourists. On the other hand, someone who wants to do a lot of hiking and other types of physical outdoor activities might be a lot happier going in early spring or during the autumn when it’s not as hot. It’s also worth noting that the temperatures vary a great deal between the northern and southern parts of the country. As a result, Crete and a few other areas around it tend to remain more comfortable, even during the warmer months. Obviously, all of this will play into your decision as well.

Something Unexpected

What happens if you want to do something that’s completely unexpected and visit Greece during late autumn or even during the winter? It’s not impossible. You should know up front that a lot of hotels and ferries don’t operate during these times of year, so traveling from place to place is more difficult, as is finding a suitable place to stay. That said, you can find some truly interesting things to do as long as you know up front that it may not be as easy as you’d like to travel from one location to the next within the country itself. If you know where to go and what you’re looking for, there’s plenty to enjoy. For example, you might decide to visit Carnival during the month of January or perhaps you’d rather go in the late autumn just to take in the local culture without the hustle and bustle of all of the summer tourists running around. If you really want to immerse yourself in the culture, it is definitely best to go when everyone else doesn’t plan on being there. You may not be able to travel as easily from one village to the next, but you also have the opportunity to genuinely immerse yourself in the culture with regard to local events, music and food. Take the time to talk to a few of the locals and study their history. You’ll see an entirely different side of Greece than you see when you visit during the middle of the summer like every other tourist. No one would ever argue the fact that a trip to Greece is something special. In fact, every person owes it to themselves to indulge in at least once in their lifetime. It’s a place that is stunningly beautiful, even in photographs. However, photographs don’t begin to do it justice. By the time you take into account the culture and atmosphere that you feel while you’re there, it’s easy to understand why so many people that decide to make the trip want to go back again and again. Chances are, you’ll want to go back too.
