Here’s How to Block a Page on Facebook

Facebook

Social media can be a wonderful thing at times. However, it can also be the source of a great deal of anxiety, especially if you find yourself in a situation where someone else is trolling you on social media. Worse yet, you can sometimes find yourself in a situation where you have become the target of cyberbullying, largely through no fault of your own. It happens more often than most people are willing to admit and it is something that can occur on virtually any social media platform. That’s precisely why you need to know how to block a page on Facebook (as well as other social media platforms). Learning how to do this successfully can be the difference between keeping your sanity or becoming genuinely distressed by everything that’s going on. For the purposes of this article, you will learn how to effectively block a page on Facebook so that you can continue to enjoy all of your other interactions on the site without having to worry about being bullied or trolled by someone else.

Straight From the Horse’s Mouth

If you really want to learn how to block a page on Facebook, it’s probably best to get the information straight from the horse’s mouth. In this particular case, that means going directly to Facebook and getting the instructions from them. After all, one would think that they would know better than anyone else how to block a page on their own site, right? According to Facebook, your first step will involve doing something you probably don’t want to do all that much. You have to go to the very same page that you want to block. Granted, this probably seems counterproductive. There aren’t that many people that want to go to a page that they would prefer to block. If you don’t want to interact with the particular individual that owns the page in question, actually visiting that page is probably the last thing you want to do. However, you only have to be on there for a couple of minutes and then you can be free from worrying about dealing with it from that point forward. In short, it’s probably worth it. So, now that you’re over the hurdle of visiting the page that you would probably rather not touch with a ten-foot pole, what else are you supposed to do? Your second step will be to click on the three asterisks that are located just below the cover photo for the page itself. A pop-up menu will appear that allows you to select an option called “block page.” Go ahead and click on it and then when you’re prompted, confirm your selection. From that point forward, this page will be blocked. That means that you and this particular individual will no longer be interacting. In other words, you can’t see their stuff and they can’t see yours. They also can’t send you messages that you probably don’t want to read in the first place.

An Alternative Method

Unfortunately, technology can sometimes be fickle. There are times when you try the suggested method, carefully following each step as you were told to follow it, yet nothing happens. Fortunately, if you run into that problem here, there is also an alternative method. The first thing you need to do is go to the Facebook homepage. From there, find the down arrow that is located in the upper right corner and then click on it. Select the option that says “Settings and Privacy.” Then select the pop-up menu for “settings.” Another menu will pop up on the left hand side of the screen that allows you to block the page. Whether you’re blocking a page or an app, a drop-down menu will appear that allows you to start typing in whatever it is you want to block. Once you see the selection you’re trying to block appear in the drop-down menu, click on it. It’s also a good idea to go ahead and visit the “Privacy” tab so you can adjust your privacy settings. Doing so will prevent this individual or anyone associated with them from finding your information on Facebook again (hopefully).

Block at Home or On the Go

It can be frustrating when you’re trying to do something on the go, only to find out that the only way you can effectively do it is by being on your desktop at home. Fortunately, that is not the case here. You can block an app or a page by using your desktop or by opening the app on your phone and following the same steps that have been listed herein. In most cases, it’s actually easier just to use the app on your phone when it comes to blocking a page than it is to use your desktop. However, it’s good to know that you have a couple of different options available to you. Furthermore, you can also use your mobile phone to go online and block someone else’s page through your browser as opposed to using the app directly. It really comes down to which method works best for you and which one you’re most comfortable with. Regardless of which method you eventually decide to use, it’s always good to know that it is possible for you to effectively block a page if you need to. Even if you don’t have a tendency to be very divisive on social media, people who are sometimes have a way of finding you. This often means that you have no other recourse but to simply block their page so that you don’t have to deal with the drama any longer. If that’s the case, then it’s comforting to know that there is a way to do it effectively. Better still, it’s a fairly easy process and it’s not one that takes a lot of time out of your already busy schedule.
