Background of Lürssen Yachts

Lürssen Yachts was started in 1875, in Aumund, Germany by Friedrich Lürssen. He was was only 24-years old at that time and set up his own boat-building workshop. The very first vessel that he built demonstrated to everyone that the Lurssen trademark was definitely originality and high-quality. From then on, Friedrich’s shipyard kept growing and thriving. In 1886, Lurssen built the world’s first motorboat for Gottlieb Daimler. It was then that the Daimler engine began taking off in popularity in the nautical world just like Lürssen’s boat designs did. They collaborated on the Lürssen-Daimler speedboat and won the Championship of the Sea in 1911. Shortly after that, they won the Grand Prix des Nations and the Prix de la Cote d´Azur.

Friedrich passed away in 1916 when he was 65 years old. Around that time, Lurssen Yachts started to build remote-controlled boats for the navy in Germany. The company launched its 10,000th vessel in 1925 on its 50th anniversary of being in business. And then, two years later they built the world’s fastest commuter yacht. It was capable of traveling at 34 knots in spite of the fact that it was the largest motor yacht worldwide. Lurssen Yachts grew and prospered, but business slowed considerably during the war. Today, the company is well-known for building many of the world’s most innovative and impressive yachts, like the Lurssen TV.
