Clothes, Shoes, Booze? What To Get Each Other For Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and if you’re celebrating but are disorganized like me, you just might still be struggling with the right gift to get your special someone. When life has taken over and you don’t have time to spend hours browsing the mall (real or virtual) for the perfect gift, then stick with the basics — shoes, clothes, and booze. Here is what I’m going within each category for this Feb 14. All can be purchased online and shipped directly to your love nest. Easy, peasy:

Shoes

For Her: Calamity in Black Suede Mid-Shaft Boots by OTBT

I just love these black suede boots that are functional and stylish at the same time, which as a mom to a young toddler, is my optimal kind of footwear. And while these mid-shaft boots look like a winter only boot at first, if you live in a climate like Colorado you can also get away with wearing them year-round by scrunching them down your leg in summer and pairing with a cute dress. In winter they look great with jeans or leggings and a comfy sweater. I love the design with multiple buckles.

For Her: Compass in Dark Taupe Ankle Boots by OTBT

Okay, all my shoe recommendations are for the ladies, but that’s because guys aren’t nearly as obsessed with shoes as us girls and you may have already topped his shoe game up over the December holiday season. As such, another pair of boots I am loving this February are these Compass in Dark Taupe Ankle Boots also by OTBT. A casual western style bootie you can incorporate them into pretty much any look year round — I love them with leggings in winter and can’t wait to pair with a cute skirt come summer. They are also super comfy thanks to a contoured footbed.

Clothes

For Him: Tech Chambray Work Shirt

Shhh, don’t tell him, but my husband TJ is getting this awesome Tech Chambray Work Shirt by Orvis for Valentine’s Day. And I know he is going to love it. It’s got all the technical performance he craves in all his clothes but also features a casual chambray work shirt style that he can wear into a restaurant. Back to the performance elements, the shirt is also lightweight and moisture wicking with quick-dry fabric. Oh, and it has UPF 30+ sun protection and a sunglasses cleaner in the hem for those days when you’re taking it out for a hardcore mountain bike ride in the sun as TJ likes to do.

For Her: Quilted Crewneck Sweatshirt

If I was choosing a gift for myself in the sweater department I’d go with this chic white Quilted Crewneck Sweatshirt from Orvis. It is beyond comfy for just Netflix-and-chilling at home, but also has a flattering body shaping cut that makes it look great with a pair of jeans and maybe one of the above mentioned boots for a night out. The sweatshirt is made from quilted jacquard cotton and is a great weight for layering in winter or wearing by itself come spring.

Booze

For Him & Her

Booze is a great gift if you don’t know what to give, or maybe you’ve just started dating and don’t want to get something as personal as clothing. And it works equally well for guys and girls. Here are spirit selections that make for a special Valentine’s gift in three different price brackets.

Retailing between $25 and $30, Proper No. Twelve is the perfect choice for newer couples and the money-savvy. The Irish whiskey is especially popular with MMA fighting fans, as it was launched in September 2018 by MMA Champion, entrepreneur and father, Conor McGregor. Proper No. Twelve’s Triple Distilled Irish Whiskey is an ultra-smooth blend of golden grain and single malt with hints of vanilla, honey and toasted wood. The brand name references Conor’s hometown in Ireland, Crumlin, Dublin 12.

In the mid-range price bracket of $54.99 is  D’USSE, which is a bold new style of Cognac. It’s VSOP varietal is an excellent balance of French oak barrel aged cognacs in the unique dry and humid cellars of distiller Chateau de Cognac. The result is a full body blend with a big, bold taste that is very complex but finishes much smoother than I expected despite the bite going down.

Hillrock Double Cask Rye is a unique American whiskey, handcrafted in small batches from 100% rye grain, which has been naturally grown, small batch pot distilled, aged, and bottled all on our Hudson Valley estate. After aging in new #3 char American oak casks, the award winning Field-to-Glass® whiskey is then aged in #4 char new American oak casks which add layers of caramel and vanilla to complement traditional rye spice. The Double Cask Rye’s deep golden amber color is highlighted by warm and inviting aromas of vanilla and caramel with hints of prune, apricot and rye spice round out the nose. Initial caramel sweetness on the palate is followed by mint, clove, and cinnamon spices before fading to a caramel, butterscotch conclusion with a long, warm and sweet finish.
