If you are planning a theme park excursion in 2018, you should pick one of the top parks for your destination of choice. There are myriad theme parks out there today, each boasting some aspect or another that makes them the best of the best. The United States has a lot of famous theme parks – King’s Island, Cedar Point, Coney Island, and so forth. But some of the best theme parks in the world are in other countries as well. In this article, we are going to go over the top five theme parks that you could visit in 2018. Featured countries include Denmark, the United Arab Emirates, Brazil, and the United States.
Universal Studios Hollywood
This park finds its roots in the original movie studio in the location, which opened back in 1912. The theme park portion of Universal Studios opened in 1964, originally consisting only of studio tours (including a tram tour). However, today’s Universal Studios includes staged events and stunt demonstrations, alongside nine rides, seven shows, and a huge outdoor area.
One of the biggest draws in recent times to Universal Studios is the premier of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter section of the park. This section opened in April, 2016. If you haven’t had a chance to check it out yet, and you are a Harry Potter fan, you should definitely try to make it there in 2018. Attractions include Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey (an animatronic/screen-based thrill ride), the Flight of the Hippogriff rollercoaster, and a replica of the Three Broomsticks restaurant.
This amusement park, located about ten kilometers north of Copenhagen, Denmark, is the world’s oldest amusement park that is still in operation. The park can trace its history back to 1583, when a freshwater natural spring was discovered in the forest. Because water in Copenhagen at the time was of poor quality, many people flocked to this area to consume water that they believed had curative properties. As is natural where people gather, vendors and entertainers soon took advantage of the crowds to make a living.
However, during the reign of Christian V the park was declared to be royal hunting grounds and thus was closed to the public in 1670. It was over 80 years later when it finally reopened under the rule of Frederick V. Though the park finds its roots in some pretty old history, today it is an excellent amusement park that features six rollercoasters and dozens of other all-ages rides. If you’re a history buff headed to Denmark with a penchant for amusement rides, you should try to make it out to Dyrehavsbakken rather than the more-popular Tivoli Gardens park.
Six Flags Great Adventure
This Six Flags amusement park is one of the best in the United States. Located in Jackson, New Jersey, it consists of eleven themed areas and has played host to many famous musical artists. Some famous artists that have performed here include Alice Cooper, Kansas, Heart, and The Ramones (among others). However, Great Adventure’s claim to fame is definitely the Kingda Ka. This hydraulically-launched ride held the title of fastest rollercoaster until 2010, reaching speeds of 128 miles per hour in as little as 3.5 seconds. It also retains the record for the tallest rollercoaster in the world, as the main hill is 456 feet high. If you’re staying in the States for your amusement park trip, consider spending a day at Six Flags Great Adventure. If you’re an adrenaline junkie, you’ll love the Kingda Ka and other rollercoasters and rides at the park. Plus, with eleven themed areas there is something for everyone at this Six Flags park.
Beto Carrero World
This park is the biggest park in Latin America. It was opened by Brazilian entertainer Beto Carrero himself, and is now the most important tourist destination in the Santa Catarina area of Brazil. The park consists of fourteen square kilometers divided into nine distinct areas. There are many rides, shows, and other attractions offered at this Latin American amusement park. It features four roller coasters, three water-based rides, and a total ride count of over one hundred. Plus, most of the rides include thematic aspects that align them with their particular section of this theme park. Whether you want to spend the day amongst buccaneers on Pirate’s Island, or cowboys in the Old West, or even raft down the rivers of Madagascar, Beto Carrero World is a safe bet. On your next trip to Brazil, be sure to stop by this park for a day to enjoy some of the fantastic attractions it offers.
Ferrari World, a tribute to the legendary Italian auto manufacturer, is a theme park located on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. It opened in 2010, and has been frequently listed as the leading theme park in the Middle East. It even won a World Travel Award in 2017. This park boasts the largest space frame structure ever built, and by extension is one of the largest indoor theme parks ever constructed. Aside from this engineering marvel, Ferrari World also is host to the fastest roller coaster in the world – the Formula Rossa. This launched coaster reaches speeds of 150 miles per hour in only about five seconds. This is faster than the best commercially-available supercar. Ferrari World also includes many family-friendly rides, as well as a few shows. The park seems to have earned its place as the best park in the Middle East, and it is certainly worth visiting the next time you find yourself in Abu Dhabi.
