The world is a big place, but we spend so much time working or studying that we rarely get the chance to see it all. However, that shouldn’t stop us at least trying! A long weekend, Christmas holidays, Easter break… there’s always a chance to sneak in a vacation sometime in the year. But with so many places to see and awesome ways to do it, what options are available to us? Here are five that we think are an absolute must.
1. Solo adventure
At least once in your life, it feels incredible to take a solo trip somewhere. You’ve got full control over your itinerary, you’ll improve your self-confidence, and you’ll find that you can handle situations on your own much better than you thought. There’s actually no need to be afraid of not having anyone to talk to, as you can meet other like-minded travelers in hostels or trains who might be interested in teaming up for an adventure somewhere for a while.
2. Cruise through the Norwegian fjords
Perhaps best seen in the summer (it gets very cold in Norway), the fjords will make you feel like you’ve gone back in time and let you experience utter bliss in the form of silence, majestic mountains and clear blue rivers. However, a fjord cruise isn’t all about the boat, as you’ll have the chance to get off and stay the night in a few of Norway’s most beautiful cities like Oslo and Bergen. The cruises usually last seven to eight days and also provide food and drinks. You’ll also get the chance to wander about the cities and towns on your own for a while, without any group shepherding.
3. Private jet tour
The ability to significantly reduce your embarking time, fly to airports much closer to your destination and receive some truly amazing VIP service while onboard is not something that can be said for every type of travel. It doesn’t matter if it’s a weekend getaway in Paris or a culture week in London, taking a charter jet there will make you feel like royalty. It’s fair to say that many people don’t quite understand where all the money goes when paying for a private jet, but booking service JetApp has thankfully summarized it all.
4. Train through the Swiss Alps
The Glacier Express, as it’s known, is a fantastic way to travel from one end of the Swiss Alps to the other. Taking around 7.5 hours, the train trip will let you see Switzerland at its best. You’ll witness epic snow-capped mountains, gorgeous rivers, ancient castles, and cute little villages nestled in the valleys. Oh, and you’ll definitely get a luxurious experience onboard too, don’t worry!
5. Volunteer trip
Lastly, a holiday where you can give back to others is sometimes best kind of trip we can take. Volunteering abroad doesn’t only let you see some truly exquisite parts of the world, but gives you a chance to see how real citizens live. In places like South Africa, Brazil, India and Nepal, you could take part in programs for teaching English, preserving the wildlife, and even constructing new homes and schools for the locals. Check out a site like Go Overseas and see if there’s something for you to experience.
