10 Things You Didn’t Know about Genuine Parts CEO Paul Donahue

Paul Donahue is the Chief Executive Officer of Genuine Parts Company, a corporation that specializes in producing replacement parts for automobiles. You might have heard of the company and maybe you even have some parts on your car that were made by them. That being said, most people don’t really know all that much about the person in charge. In fact, a lot of individuals don’t even know who the CEO is, so if you want to know more, you can find 10 rather interesting things about him just by reading this article.

1. He has a great deal of natural curiosity

He readily admits that he’s always been rather curious, even when he was a small child. He’s just always wanted to know how things work and why they work the way they do. This isn’t about any particular subject matter as much as it is a blanket statement that he uses for his life. He’s always been curious about practically everything and if he doesn’t understand something, he works to figure out the why and how of it all so he can better understand it.

2. He has always loved classic cars

It might not surprise you that he ended up working for the company he is currently employed by when you understand that he’s always had a special love of classic cars. For him, it’s about a connection to his youth and a way to keep a small part of him young in a healthy manner. Working for a company that provides replacement parts for cars is merely an extension of that love for classic cars that he has always had.

3. He used to dream about working in the automotive industry

When he was a teenager, he actually dreamed about working in the automotive industry. That being said, he admits that he never dreamed that he would eventually become the CEO of a company that caters to that industry.

4. When he was in high school, he worked on his own car

As a teenager, he loves working on his own car. He admits that there’s a certain amount of satisfaction that comes from figuring out a problem and then finding a way to correct it, seeing the results of one’s own handiwork.

5. He loves having the chance to solve problems

As you may have already guessed, he loves to have the chance to solve problems. Part of the fun in life is being able to not only recognize that a problem exists, but to figure out a viable solution and then carry it out.

6. He isn’t afraid to try new things

He’s never been fearful about trying new things. A lot of people fall into this trap where they only want to do things that they’ve done before and that applies to both individuals and companies. Conversely, he realizes that in order to achieve new heights, you have to stop doing what you’ve already done and start doing something different.

7. He realizes that in order to grow, you have to get out of your comfort zone

For him, it’s all about getting out of his comfort zone. Many wise people have said that nothing great is ever accomplished while you’re in your comfort zone and he realizes that this is more than just a saying. As a result, he makes it a point to grow by getting a little uncomfortable on a routine basis.

8. He listens to the ideas of others

He also knows that no one ever has all the answers on their own. He makes it a point to listen to the ideas of others. He has never allowed himself to fall into that rap where he thinks he knows more than the newest hire. He instead realizes that by listening to what others have to say, you just might be inspired to do something great.

9. He doesn’t believe in ruling with an iron fist

He’s never been the “my way or the highway” type of person. He knows that people do their best work when they are happy and that only happens when they have a certain amount of freedom to be themselves.

10. He gives back – a lot

He knows that he’s lucky to have experienced the success that he has enjoyed. As such, he does everything he can to give back to others who aren’t quite as fortunate as he has been. You might say that he has always remembered where he came from.
