Greubel Forsey’s New Balancier S² Timepiece

Balancier S²

Greubel Forsey’s New Balancier S² is something to behold. There is no doubt that it will eventually become one of the world’s most sought-after watches. As a matter of fact, you only have to give it a single glance to know that it is truly something special. It doesn’t really look like anything else on the market. The best part is that it can probably outperform many other watches that are currently available as well. If you’re curious to know more about the watch that could just as easily serve as its very own piece of art, keep reading while we take a closer look.

A Bold Timepiece That Makes an Equally Bold Statement

There is no doubt about it, this is not a watch to be worn by the faint of heart. It’s a bold watch that is capable of getting your attention from several feet away, thanks in large part to its design. That said, another reason that it’s such an attention getter is because of its 46.5 mm size. It’s also 13.75 mm thick. At that size, it takes up a considerable amount of real estate on your wrist. If you’re not necessarily comfortable wearing large watches, this one might feel like it is simply too big and too heavy to handle. Its predecessor was not exactly small, at 43 mm. However, adding that extra 3.5 mm makes a tremendous difference. It’s something that tends to worry a lot of people until they actually wear it. More often than not, they decide that it wears very well, even for its considerably larger size. After all, the intention of the Swiss watchmaker was to create something that would be able to get the attention of others and this watch is certainly capable of achieving that goal with relative ease.

A Genuine Piece of Art

Perhaps the thing that makes this watch so stunning is the fact that it doesn’t look like most of the watches available for sale these days. It features a deconstructed design that allows you to see the inner components of the watch as they are actually working. As such, it is genuinely a piece of art that just happens to be capable of telling time. It’s something that is very functional in the most practical sense there is, yet it almost looks like it belongs in a contemporary art museum as opposed to being worn on your wrist. The unique design that makes it such a conversation starter is complemented by high quality workmanship such as a brushed titanium bezel and flanks that have been polished to perfection. There is another major difference here between this particular example and its predecessor. It involves the bridge that holds the gear train as well as the straddles. In this particular case, it is made from double titanium and it is open so that you can actually see all of the working parts moving together, as previously mentioned. It’s a rather big departure from what the company has done in the past and it’s something that is likely to not only draw attention to your timepiece in all the best ways possible, but also give you better insight into how they create such a dynamic piece of art in the first place. There’s no doubt that this is one of the highest quality watches that you’re likely to ever run across, but it’s so much more than just a watch. While it’s capable of telling the time accurately for years to come, it’s also capable of becoming a legend in its own right because if it’s unique design and the vision that went into accomplishing such a masterpiece.

Comfort and Style

Considering the relatively large size of this particular watch, you’re probably under the impression that it’s one of the heavier watches you might run across. In reality, that isn’t the case at all. In fact, the titanium bracelet that can be purchased along with the watch makes it almost feather-light on your wrist, despite its size. It’s important to note that the watch doesn’t automatically come with the titanium bracelet, but instead comes with a leather strap. If you want the titanium bracelet, you’ll have to order that separately from the watch itself, for a separate fee. That said, the company will mount the watch onto the titanium bracelet for you so that it’s delivered and ready to be worn. It’s also worth noting that this bracelet is curved so that it tends to fit your wrist better with less movement.

The Look and Performance of a Sports Watch

This particular watch maker has made a few watches that look like sports watches, even though they weren’t exactly sports watches in the truest sense. That is definitely not the case here. This particular example, just like its predecessor, is very much a sports watch. It certainly looks like one, but the difference is that it performs like one, too. As a matter of fact, it’s water resistant to 100 meters and incorporates many of the same qualities as the watch that came directly before it, the Balancier S, as far as its construction is concerned. In both cases, you have a watch that not only looks like a sports watch, but also performs like one. The difference between the two is that this particular example is simplified, eliminating unnecessary design elements for a finished product that is cleaner, more direct and easier to use. Perhaps the greatest thing about this watch is that it is capable of handling the type of punishment that typically comes with being a sports watch, even where water sports are concerned. At the same time, it is both bold and elegant, at home during a weekend adventure or while wearing a suit to the office. There are relatively few timepieces that have such versatility. That is precisely what makes this one worth the asking price of more than $2,500.
