How Much Do YouTubers Make?

More people than ever are using the Internet as a means of making an income. While for some people this is to earn a little extra cash, others a making a full-time living online. Some of the most successful people are even getting rich through their online entrepreneurial efforts. One way people are earning money online is by using YouTube. These people have become known as YouTubers and they create niche channels for posting videos. Although this is a hobby for some, it is the main source of income for others. So, how much do YouTubers earn?

How Do YouTubers Make Money?

In general, there are three streams of revenue for YouTubers. The first is money generated by advertisements. Companies pay Google money to display their adverts. Google then pay a percentage of this money to YouTubers based on the number of views their content receives. The second form of income is subscriptions. People pay to subscribe to a YouTube channel or to watch specific pieces of video content. The more people that subscribe or watch the videos, the more money the vlogger can make. The third way that a YouTuber can earn money is by promoting products. Companies will pay YouTubers who have lots of views and subscriptions money to promote their products in the vlog content.

What Do They Earn Through Ads?

How much money people earn through advertisement revenue is a vague subject. Companies pay Google different amounts to advertise, although this is usually $.010 to $0.30 per view. Of the money earned by Google for advertisements, they share approximately 68 percent of the money. This means that a YouTuber can earn an average of $18 per 1,000 ad views. The advertisements are not shown for every view of a video, so most YouTubers will earn between $3 and $5 for every 1,000 views of their content.

What Does the Average YouTuber Make?

A recent report has shown that as many as 96.5 percent of YouTubers will earn less than $12,000 per year. Many people dream that they will become successful vloggers, but this is achieved by only a few. If having a YouTube channel is someone’s only income and they are earning below $12,000 annually, it would officially put them below the poverty line in the United States. Only the top three percent of YouTube channels are earning above $16,800.

Who Are the Richest YouTubers?

Some of the top YouTubers have achieved international fame and financial success. The most successful YouTuber of 2017 was DanTDM. The 26-year-old from Aldershot, England, whose real name is Daniel Middleton, posts videos of himself playing Minecraft and Pokemon. He has 16 million subscribers and his videos have received more than 10 billion views. DanTDM was formerly known as The Diamond Minecraft. In 2017, his YouTube channel earned him $16.5 million.

DanTDM was closely followed by Evan Fong, who is known on YouTube as VanossGaming. He entered the list of top earners for the first time in 2017 with reported earnings of $15.5 million. Like DanTDM, his YouTube channel is about gaming. Others on the list included Dude Perfect with $14 million, Markiplier with $12.5 million, Logan Paul with $12.5 million, and PewDiePie with $12 million.

In the seventh position on the 2017 list was Jake Paul, the younger brother of Logan Paul, who it is believed earned $11.5 million. Since then, Jake Paul has increased in popularity online and is currently in first place for earnings in 2018. If he continues to gain subscribers and views throughout the year, he should officially end the year in pole position.

A surprise entry on last year’s list was a YouTube channel called ‘Ryan ToysReviews’. Ryan, who was six-years-old when last year’s list was compiled, is a child who opens new toys and reviews them on his own vlog. He is filmed by his parents who helped him to start his channel. He has become a big hit with children from around the world and is probably one of the richest children under the age of ten anywhere.

While men dominate the list of the most successful YouTubers, there is one woman who has made it onto the top ten list. In the tenth position is Lilly Singh who made $10.5 million in 2017. This was a significant drop for her as she was in the third position in the 2016 list.
