A Closer Look at Hublot’s Big Bang Unico Berluti Aluminio Watch

Hublot's Big Bang Unico Berluti Aluminio Watch

What do you know about the Hublot Limited Edition Big Bang Unico Berluti Aluminio watch? Aside from the fact that the name is a real mouthful, you may not know a lot. Fortunately, you’ve come to the right place because here, you can learn all about this watch that is making people talk, even when they don’t usually pay a lot of attention to watches in general.

The Most Obvious Difference

The thing that makes this watch stand out is the same thing that has made other Hublot watches stand out in the past. It is, in part, made of leather. That might not sound like anything so special, because you’re probably thinking about a leather strap or something similar. However, that is not the case here. Hublot has made part of the dial out of leather, something that they have done in the past. They first ventured into this territory about seven years ago and it was wildly successful. As such, they’ve done it a number of times since then and it continues to be one of their biggest selling points. The thing that makes this watch extra special is that the leather is combined with grayed out titanium that gives it a very unique two-tone grey appearance that is absolutely exquisite. It’s very understated, but it’s also very elegant.

Irony Defined

Like some other products available around the world, this watch seems to be the very definition of irony. After all, who would have thought about incorporating titanium with a leather face on a watch? The very idea sounds absolutely ludicrous, yet it’s something that has worked over the course of several other product releases for Hublot. Even though it sounds like it would look absolutely hideous, the finished product is nothing short of breathtaking. While some might think that creating a watch with a leather face is something of a cop-out, especially for a luxury watchmaker, the end result looks more like a piece of artwork than something that you would wear on your wrist to keep time. Perhaps that is the very point of this particular watch in the first place. It is in every sense a timepiece designed for the express purpose of telling time. However, it is also a piece of art in its own right and it should be viewed as such.

A Troubled History?

When people hear the name Hublot, they sometimes cringe. The misconception is that some people don’t like the watchmaker because they don’t create high-quality timepieces. That is a myth. The watches made by this company are just as well made as anything else out there. The issue appears to be in the fact that they routinely release watches that they say are limited edition, yet they are also produced in amazingly large numbers. Why is that relevant here? As you can see from the name of the watch, that is precisely the same thing that they have done with this particular example. As a result, that has caused some people to be less than fond of this particular watch maker, largely because they seem to have started the limited edition movement and continue to be the most prolific player in it, even to this day.

Finding a Watch

Fortunately, there are plenty of places to find one of these watches if you are so inclined. Even though it hasn’t been out for very long, there is even some availability on highly respected used watch clearinghouse that only deal with the best companies out there. It’s important to remember that these types of clearinghouses purchase watches by hand. If it isn’t something that is truly exquisite, they won’t even take a second look at it. That fact alone should tell you that this particular watch is one worth getting your hands on. However, if you’re still not convinced, consider the points mentioned in the following paragraph.

Details, Details

This particular watch has a 44 mm case with a bezel that is designed to develop its own patina over time, something that is wildly unique in the watchmaking industry. Of course, everything about the watch itself is done to exacting standards, just like you would expect anything of this caliber to be. It’s also worth noting that the watch is water-resistant all the way to 100 meters, meaning that it can take a lot of punishment and still keep time without missing a beat. Of course, it is a watch that has a lot of physical presence to it as well. Aside from its unique construction, the size alone is enough to get the attention of anyone who sees it, making it a fantastic conversation starter. At the end of the day, most people want a watch that is capable of keeping accurate time without being so delicate that every little thing causes a problem. People want something that is versatile. As such, it’s important to be able to wear the watch when you are out and about, just like it is when you’re in the boardroom. This is a watch that is sturdy, well-built and capable of taking more than its fair share of punishment without needing to be repaired every time you turn around. It’s also a watch that is largely capable of standing the test of time. As a result, there is every reason to believe that it will go on to be just as popular as many of the other Hublot watches that have come before it. As far as the limited edition debacle is concerned, it’s true that it is a limited edition, but that doesn’t mean that it has to be produced in extremely small numbers. If that is what is really bothering you, then you’re probably missing the point of owning this watch in the first place. Fortunately, it looks like there will be enough of these watches in circulation to allow anyone that wants to get their hands on one an opportunity to do so.
