Is The V-12-Powered Mercedes-AMG SL65 Being Phased Out?

If you have a real penchant for luxury cars that are capable of outperforming just about anything else on the road, you might be a real fan of the Mercedes AMG-SL65. If that happens to be the case, you should start looking for one that you can purchase right now, because in just a few months, the car won’t be around any longer.

This type of news sent a lot of people into panic mode and by all accounts, many of them are scrambling to secure their own version of this iconic automobile before it drives off into the history books. The thing that really makes this car stand out, aside from its outstanding looks, remarkable luxury, and superior handling, is the V12 engine that’s capable of producing a whopping 621 horsepower. People love the idea of being able to own their own automobile that represents the epitome of both luxury and performance. If you have ever driven one of these cars, it’s easy to understand why so many people are fond of it, to say the least.

Recently, it was announced that this car would no longer be in production by the end of May and Mercedes expects to officially retire the automobile the following month. There has been talk that the V12 engine would also be retired, but it really depends on who you talk to. Some people claim that it will continue on in the Maybach line of automobiles while others claim that it will go by the wayside, just as the AMG-SL65 is doing. Unfortunately, aficionados of this engine will probably have to wait and see what the company does because it doesn’t seem like they’re too anxious to tell anyone ahead of time.

In fact, Mercedes has been remarkably tight-lipped about the entire thing. When pressed for comment about the situation and whether or not anything might fill the void that is created by the end of production on the SL65, they didn’t seem too anxious to comment one way or the other. There is some speculation that the SL line of Mercedes automobiles will continue and that a new version, called the SL73, will take the current automobile’s place. If it comes to fruition, the new automobile is said to feature an electric powertrain along with a 4-liter twin turbo V8 engine that is capable of producing even more power than the car that is being phased out. Numbers suggest that it might be just over 800 horsepower. Again, the company refuses to either confirm or deny any of this so it’s impossible to tell whether or not this will actually happen or if it’s just another rumor.

One thing is certain. A lot of people want to snag some of the last remaining Mercedes AMG-SL65’s that are out there. At just over $200,000, this is not a car for the average blue-collar worker. If you want one, you better have a great job because it’s going to require a lot of money in order to get one. With that being said, if you can afford it, you can have a car that is capable of turning heads everywhere you go. Even people that aren’t car people are interested in this automobile. It’s looks alone are enough to get the attention of everybody that sees it, not to mention the way it handles and performs. This is a car that really does have everything you could ever dream of. That’s why so many people are trying to get one and it’s something of a mystery as to why Mercedes has decided to phase it out in the first place.

Maybe the company really does have something even more powerful on the horizon. Maybe they’re just trying to create additional sales by phasing out the current production of the automobile, thereby forcing the hands of individuals who have been on the fence about buying one. It might not be possible to tell exactly what they’re thinking, but the stark reality is that this particular automobile is going away in the very near future. Chances are, the price will rise sharply for anyone that is attempting to get one from a private seller after the fact.
