How Juni Learning Is Revolutionizing Education For Kids

Juni Learning is a new start-up business that aims to make sure that children are able to get access to a good education in computer programming. The company was founded by Vivian Shen and Ruby Lee who met at the computer science department at Stanford. They both faced their own challenges in learning to code when they were younger and want to make it easier for children to get access to this type of education.

Their inspiration for Juni Learning was the successful Chinese education program VIPKID which teaches children English. VIPKID matches children with tutors from all over the world who work with them to improve their English skills. Juni Learning works in exactly the same way except the children are being taught how to code, a skill that is sure to be much needed in the future. All tutors will be vetted and they have to pass a pre-qualification test. Another aspect of VIPKID that was inspiring to Shen and Lee was that it was a very successful company was founded by a woman, Cindy Mi.

Shen grew up in Palo Alto California which has been home to some of the biggest tech companies in the world including Facebook and Twitter. Despite this, there was only one computer science class available for her to take in high school. The situation was worse for Lee who grew up in Boston as there are no classes at all for her to take. This was very frustrating for both women who had a real interest in computer science. There may be many children all over the United States that have not pursued the dream career in computer science because of the lack of opportunity. This is something that Lee and Sharon did not want to see happening again in the future.

There are a number of different plans that are available from Juni Learning that children are able to take advantage of. The pricing system has been considered carefully to make sure that it is affordable while still being able to pay the tutors a good wage. Rather than going with a more traditional structure of a set price per lesson, fees are set on a monthly basis with a class being taken every week. The lowest priced plan is $250 per month and this will teach children all they need to know about the basics of coding. As the work becomes more advanced than the price increases which reflects the work that the tutors will have to put in to these classes. There are also group classes that can be taken and the plan for these starts at $160.

The amount of money that the tutors get paid depends on their level of experience. Most tutors are recruited from some of the top colleges in the United States and are primarily students that are currently studying computer science and other associated courses. It provides the students with valuable teaching experience that might prove useful to them in their future careers. Tutoring is also something that looks very good on a resume and it also never hurts to be reminded of the basics regularly even when you’ve been working in computer science for some time.

Juni Learning soft launch in August and the program was met with a very warm reception. It has recently been accepted into the latest batch of Y Contributor companies and this will help to raise it’s profile even further. Shen and Lee are really hopeful about the future of this company and are excited to see what they can go on to achieve.

There is no reason why this company cannot continue to expand worldwide as it has already proved to be very successful in the United States. Coding is a skill that can help children in a whole range of careers and it is something that is probably going to become even more necessary in the future. Tech has a huge role to play in so many different industries that it cannot be emphasized enough what a crucial skill coding actually is. Getting children interested in this subject while they are still young can help them have a lifelong passion for computer science and one of the best things about Juni Learning is that is provides just as many opportunities for girls as it does for boys.
