10 Things You Need to Do While in Kauai

Many people dream their whole life of being able to visit the wonderful island state of Hawaii, yet they just never seem to get the opportunity. If you are fortunate enough to have a trip planned there, the excitement level must be off the charts right about now. With Kauai being one of the most picturesque parts of the state, it is quite possible that your holiday involves this great location. Kauai is 15 miles of beautiful coastline and nature trails that you are sure to fall in love with. As you plan your trip, here are ten things that you really need to consider doing while you are in Kauai.

Spot Wildlife at Poipu Beach

Poipu Beach is absolutely stunning at sunrise. If you are an early riser, you really want to head over there one morning and take in the sites. At the same time, you just might be able to see some giant sea turtles resting in the sand before all the people arrive for the day. Remember to just look and do not touch!

Visit Waimea Canyon State Park

This is often referred to at the Grand Canyon of the Pacific for a reason. It is a very deep gorge that goes about 14 miles at its longest point. It is also some 3,600 feet deep. It is simply stunning to see and marvel at how it appears on the island of Hawaii.

Take a Hike on the Maha’ulepu Heritage Trail

You will really enjoy your walk on this trail, and there is so much to see along the way. You will want to start at Shipwreck Beach. You will walk right along the coast to the Makauwahi Sinkhole. This is actually the biggest limestone cave in all of Hawaii. Walking along this trail is like taking a stroll back in time.

Take Part In A Local Luau

No trip to Kauai would be complete without you taking part in a local luau. This is truly a cultural experience that the entire family will enjoy. You will enjoy some local food, and there will be some great entertainment that epitomizes the Polynesian way of life as well.

Go On A River Tubing Trip

Kauai has a long and storied history with sugar cane. You can take a river tubing trip and see the old sugar plantations as you travel through some of the historical irrigation systems that still dot the island. You will also be able to see Waialeale Crater.

Visit Na Pali Coast State Park

You will want to visit this state park in order to see the cliffs that go as high as 4,000 feet up in the air. Many trips come to Kauai for this reason alone. You can access this area by hiking on the trail, taking a boat, or going up there in a helicopter. The choice is yours.

Enjoy the Nightlife

Kauai may not be a late night city, but it does have its share of places where adults can go at night and let their hair down. One great place is Duke’s Barefoot Bar. Situated smack dab on the beach itself, you will enjoy live music and full bar late into the night.

Go Look at The Kilauea Lighthouse

Built way back in 1913, you really must take time to come and see this lighthouse. When it was in operation, the lens could be seen an impressive 22 miles out at sea. You will now be able to see this lens as you take a guided tour of the facility.

Visit the Hanalei Neighborhood

If you want to see the traditional way of life in Kauai and get away from the tourists for a while, a visit to the Hanalei Neighborhood is what you need. You will find local shops, food trucks serving tasty local food, and co much. The view of the mountains off in the distance is pretty impressive as well.

Go Snorkeling

No visit to Hawaii would be complete without a snorkeling adventure or two, and Kauai is certainly no exception. You will want to Tunnels, as this is the most scenic water in the area and will allow you to see a great deal of colorful fish and coral.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. These ten activities will certainly give you a broad overview of the island, but there is also much more to see and do. Take time to relax and explore your surroundings. This is truly going to be the trip of a lifetime for you.
