Neuroon is the New Wearable Device That Helps Beat Jet Lag

Anyone who has taken a long flight across several time zones understands how difficult it can be to overcome jet lag. Though air transportation allows for traveling the globe in record time, changing the body’s reaction to hurtling from one time into another requires adjusting to time differences and happens slowly for most travelers. Common problems include poor concentration, fatigue and in some cases the early stages of sleep deprivation. Feeling crabby, cranky and desperate for sleep only begins to describe how awful some people feel when first arriving at their destination.

Stanford University School of Medicine researchers have discovered that short bursts of light during sleep are effective in adjusting the body’s natural circadian rhythms. Using light systematically allows scientists to prepare the body clock for a new time zone before traveling. This new form of light therapy takes place at night while the person is sleeping. As a result of this breakthrough research, an easy to wear device, Neuroon, was launched in December of 2015 to provide light therapy to alleviate jet jag. Travelers can now speed the adjustment process from their usual time zone to that of their planned destination.

On average, the body usually adjusts to a new time zone by one hour each day. Using this formula, traveling to a time zone three hours earlier would take about three days for the body to adjust its normal circadian rhythms. Until the body is completely in sync with the new time zone, it can suffer from gastrointestinal upsets, fatigue, diminished alertness or a general feeling of illness. But Neuroon offers an alternative to these slow adjustment issues.

Neuroon is a sleeping mask commonly worn during air travel; and much more. It is constructed of comfortable and soft material, which is also hypoallergenic. It has three parts: the mask, the Smartpack containing electronics and sensors encased in silicone which is medically certified, and an app which controls the mask using Bluetooth wireless technology.

The Stanford study showed that flashes of light administered in two-millisecond sequences set at ten seconds apart provided almost two hours of delay in the normal time when sleepiness begins. This is a highly efficient method for controlling adjustments in the body’s normal sleep cycles. Neuroon contains technology which measures pulse and brain waves to monitor and analyze the wearer’s sleep patterns. Then, its biometric sensors calculate an efficiency score and provide advice to optimize the most efficient sleep.
