A Closer Look at Piëch’s New 603 HP GT
Have you ever heard of a car company called Piëch? If you haven’t, you’re not alone but you’re probably going to want to learn as much as you possibly can about this relatively new Swiss car maker because they are doing some amazing things. They’ve only been around for a few years, beginning business in 2017. That said, they also have a standalone product that isn’t like any other car on the road, the all electric GT sports car. If you think this car is like any other car, you can think again. Even among the relatively select few electric sports cars, this one stands head and shoulders above the competition for so many reasons.
Horsepower is King
People have a tendency to think that all electric vehicles are not capable of producing a large amount of horsepower. This is the car that is capable of proving that theory wrong, once and for all. As a matter of fact, the car is capable of a mind-boggling 603 horsepower, which is much more than the overwhelming majority of sports cars with traditional internal combustion engines. How is it possible for an all electric vehicle to achieve more than 600 horsepower? In this case, it’s accomplished through the use of three separate electric motors. The first one drives the front wheels and the other two are dedicated to one rear wheel each. Collectively, these three electric motors are capable of producing more horsepower than even the most powerful traditional engines, as previously mentioned. If you’re wondering how all that power feels when you’re on the road, consider this fact. The car is capable of going from 0 to 60 in only three seconds and it can reach its top speed of 124 miles per hour in less than 10 seconds. Not bad for an all electric vehicle, is it?
Looks Still Matter
Another issue that a lot of people have with electric vehicles is that they tend to look so futuristic that they’re not even attractive. That is especially true when you’re talking about a sports car. Sports cars are supposed to have a certain finesse about them. There’s something to be said for the classic lines that blend together and flow seamlessly from one part of the car to the other. Nobody wants to look at something that is so far-fetched that it will go out of style in six months or less, especially when you’re talking about something as important as a sports car. This isn’t something you have to worry about here. The car very much looks the part, appearing as a traditional roadster that is at the top of the class. In fact, a number of people have commented that it looks like a car that would be very much at home in a James Bond movie. It makes sense because the car looks like a very high-end sports car that has every modern-day amenity that you could possibly imagine, yet it pays homage to the classic lines of the cars that have come before it. In short, it looks like a direct descendant of some of the best and most well-respected sports cars in history, with modern-day improvements. What it doesn’t do is end up looking like something that has been dropped directly from outer space which will ultimately become an eyesore sitting in your driveway like so many other all electric vehicles.
Longevity Matters, Too
The last thing that people typically complain about with electric vehicles is that they either don’t have a very good range or they take forever to charge. In some cases, the complaint is valid. That is also something that this particular automaker has addressed quite successfully. In fact, the GT is capable of traveling 310 miles on a single charge. It doesn’t take forever to charge, either. While it does take a few hours if you charge it in the more traditional manner, the batteries are designed to accept something called fast-charging, which ultimately means that you can charge the car in a matter of minutes. It won’t be charged to 100 percent if you do it in this manner, meaning that your range is going to be a bit less than the aforementioned 310 miles. That said, you can get it to about 80 percent of a complete charge in less than 10 minutes. If you purchase a special charger that is also available through the company, you can reduce that time down to five minutes. That’s not bad for an electric vehicle that can easily travel at well over 100 miles an hour. In fact, this car sort of blows all of those issues that people typically have with electric vehicles right out of the water.
Where Can You Get One?
By now, you’re probably salivating and wondering where you can get your hands on one of these cars. You’ll have to calm down, because the truth is, you can’t get one, at least not yet. The automaker is determined to make absolutely certain that there are no issues with the car that could potentially derail its success, so they plan to carry out an extensive testing program over the course of the next two years. As a result, the car will not be available for sale to the public until 2024, most likely during the summer of that year. While a final purchase price hasn’t been set yet, the closest thing to this car, Audi’s E-tron, is selling for $99,000. If the purchase price of the GT’s rival sports car is any indication, it’s probably a good thing that it won’t be available for a couple of years. That should give you time to save up enough money to get your hands on one. Truth be told, it might be some of the best money you’ve ever spent. After all, where else can you enjoy classic sports car looks and performance to boot, all while being environmentally responsible at the same time?
