Which is why the thought of an electric Porsche is exciting. Initially going by the name J1, the Mission E is expected to start rolling along the production line around September 2019, and go on sale towards the end of the year.

The Electric Technology

It will be running on an all-wheel drive system that’s powered by two twin eclectic motor system. If the original concept that was seen in 2015 is anything to go by, the Mission E will produce at least 590 horse power or about 400 kilowatts, and achieve a range of 500 kilometers or 310 miles from a single recharge. Moreover, Porsche claims that the car will be able to achieve a maximum speed of 60 miles per hour within 3.5 seconds, which is quite a remarkable feat for an EV. To recharge its battery bank, the Mission E concept will be relying on its ultra-fast charger to deliver over 80 percent of the charge in the first 15 minutes. It’s also rumored that Porsche will include an in-floor induction charging system that will recharge the batteries wirelessly.

Power Variance

Some reputable sources have intimated that the Mission E will come in three power output options. There will be a 402 hp, 536 hp, and 670 hp, which will allow buyer to choose a car based on their preference on price, range of the car, as well as recharge times. The car is also expected to adapt to different charging systems since the 800 volt charging system that’s considered optimum isn’t common. It will therefore be possible to recharge it from a 400-volt charging system as well as the common household socket.

Pricing

According to Porsche, they will price the Mission E to match an entry level Panamera, buyer should therefore expect to pay about $85,000. Within the Porsche portfolio, it will be positioned between the 911 and the Panamera. It’s competitors will include the Tesla Model S, which cost about $69,000. Manufacturing

The Porsche Mission E will be manufactured at the brand’s Stuttgart facility, where a workforce of 1,400 is expected to be hired to help in manufacturing this new electric vehicle. The Weissach development center will be the engineering nerve center, where Porsche is expected to invest about $825 million to make Mission E an engineering masterpiece.

Expected Final Look

While it’s hard to paint a clear picture of the final look, the cue from the 2015 concept car point to a car that will have a long and sloping hood, similar to that of the Panamera. Other notable features will be a small vent between the license plate and the front splitter.
