What is the Rolex Deepsea For?

Rolex Deepsea

If you’re a connoisseur of high quality watches, you might have heard of the Rolex Deepsea a time or two. Obviously, you know that anything made by Rolex is going to involve a watch of the highest quality. When someone asks you what a Rolex Deepsea is used for, the obvious answer would be to tell time. However, there’s much more to it than that. As the name of this particular watch implies, it’s also made to take a fair amount of punishment involving water sports or other things of that nature. In order to gain a better understanding of it, you have to first explore the product a little bit. Fortunately, you’re in the right place to do exactly that.

What is the Rolex Deepsea?

Rolex isn’t shy about what this watch was designed to do. As far as they’re concerned, it is anything but your typical watch. In fact, they made it specifically for people who do deep sea diving for a living. As a matter of fact, this watch is certified to be waterproof all the way down to a depth of 12,800 feet. That’s almost unimaginable and it practically shatters the record for anything else available. The truth is, Rolex themselves manufactured what is widely considered the next best watch in terms of being waterproof to a particular depth, the Sea Dweller. That particular product is only waterproof to a depth of 4,000 feet. As you can see, their Deepsea watch is waterproof to more than triple that distance. It’s important to remember that we’re not talking about water resistant here, either. Rolex has certified the watches as waterproof, meaning that no matter what type of abuse you put them through, they’re able to stand up to the task. As a matter of fact, the Deepsea is designed to continuously operate just as flawlessly under tons of pressure that automatically comes with being more than 10,000 feet deep in the water as it does when you’re on the surface. That fact alone is a true engineering feat that’s extremely difficult to pull off, yet Rolex makes it look almost easy.

Appearance Isn’t Everything, but It Does Matter

The first thing that you’re likely to notice upon seeing this watch is that it is absolutely stunning in its appearance. Like so many other Rolex watches, it makes a statement. It is constructed from stainless steel and is 44 mm in diameter. That makes it a bold watch that really stands out on the wrist, but it’s not all about making a statement. Even though Rolex would likely choose to have a statement piece if at all possible, they actually designed the watch this way for a very practical purpose. When divers are at depth, it becomes very hard to see and the larger watch makes it much easier for them to be able to see so they know what they are doing in order to make sure that they’re not down there too long. Of course, the stunning blue dial mixes well with the stainless steel case and clasp, making it something that looks just as good when worn with a suit and tie as it does when worn with a diver’s suit. It’s become so popular that ocean explorer James Cameron now considers it his go to timepiece. As a matter of fact, there are plenty of people who dive for a living that use the same watch everyday. They don’t use it because it makes a statement or because it looks good on the wrist, although those are definite advantages. At the end of the day, they use it because it works and they know they can trust it.

A Collectible in Waiting

Many people consider this watch to be so special that it’s almost as if it is a collectible, even though it’s still being produced by Rolex. It’s easy to understand why so many people would fall in love with it. Despite the fact that it has been produced for a number of years now, it’s still very much considered one of the best deep sea watches out there, if not the best. Part of that is because the engineers at Rolex specifically designed it to be capable of dealing with the extreme pressure that occurs at depth. As previously mentioned, the type of pressure that is involved at these depths is enough to cause most watches to stop working entirely, even if they somehow manage not to get water logged in the process. The fact this watch is waterproof and more than capable of standing up to the elements speaks volumes about the amount of effort that the engineers at Rolex have put into its design and construction. It’s no wonder that so many deep sea divers won’t use anything but this watch.

As time marches forward, there is absolutely no doubt that this watch will become even more sought-after than it is now. Today, the watch is used mainly by people who need a product like this in order to do their work safely. In the future, there is no doubt that this watch will be a treasure in the collections of individuals who only go after the very best examples that have ever been manufactured. For now, deep sea divers and watch collectors alike can simply enjoy the fact that this watch has changed the way that virtually all other deep sea watches are made. As a matter of fact, there was widespread panic a few years ago when there was some talk that Rolex might decide to discontinue the watch. Fortunately, that turned out to be untrue and they are still manufacturing it three years later. At the moment, it seems that the Rolex Deepsea has a bright future that could potentially continue for a number of years.
