How Sergey Brin Achieved a Net Worth of Over $50 Billion

Sergey Brin is one of the richest men in the world. He’s been placed in the ninth position with a net worth that is estimated to be $52.1 billion. If you’re not familiar with his story then you’re probably wondering how he came to be so wealthy. He’s he president of Alphabet, which is the parent company for Google. Here is more about his very interesting history and how he gained his tremendous wealth.

His early years

Sergey Brin was born in the Soviet Union in 1973 to parents who were both scientists. His family was forced to leave the country because of the anti-semitism that was present at the time. The bias prevented the couple from realizing their full career potential. They moved to the United States when Sergey was only 6 years old. He was academically inclined and had finished high school ahead of time and by the time he was just 19 years old he graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in math and computer science. He was exceptionally brilliant and it would eventually pay off for him.

A chance meeting that formed a powerful partnership

Brin was attending Stanford University when he met Larry Page. The two began working together on an idea that page had that was called Back Rub. It included cataloging every link on the internet. The following year, the two of them dropped out of Stanford, Brin was in graduate studies but had already earned his bachelors degree.

The two founded Google in a garage

Neither Brin nor Page had a lot of money between them. They couldn’t even afford an apartment. Google was founded by the pair in a garage in Menlo Park. Who could have ever imagined that they would found a technology company that would make them two of the richest men in the entire world?

The success of Google

By 2015, Brin had built up a net worth of $32 billion, thanks to his part in the creation of Google. The site continued to grow at an unreal rate and the wealth continued to follow. He was the fifteenth richest man in the United States at that time. He would continue to move up in that impressive and exclusive list over the next few years. Google has been around for a couple of decades and in his time it has grown and prospered exponentially. Google is not only the number 1 website and search engine in the world, it also provides digital libraries, video content, mobile technology, education and much more. Google became a subsidiary of the parent company, owned by Brin which is Alphabet. It is currently valued at an estimated $762.5 billion. They employ workers from around the world in a workforce that is 89,000 strong.

His foundation

Brin and his ex-wife were philanthropists who gave regularly to charities. They established the Brin Wojcicki Foundation which has reached a total valuation of assets in the amount of $1.5 billion. The couple gave hundreds of millions to charity and supported worthy causes in scientific research, education, homelessness and much more. They freely gave back to the community through their financial support of various charitable organizations. Of particular interest to Brin, is the cause of Parkinson’s research a his mother was diagnosed with this medical condition. He generously contributes to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

Difficulties in his personal life

Brin has been faced with many difficulties in his personal life. Although business has been moving from one big success to another, his home life has not enjoyed the same security. Because of an alleged affair that Brin was accused of carrying on with an employee at Google, his marriage has ended in divorce. There has been no word on how much of his estate the dissolution has cost him but he’s still worth an estimated $52.1 billion.

Sergey Brin used his skills and knowledge to develop an amazing technology resource that millions throughout the world depend on daily for a variety of tasks. He wasn’t a rich man when he started out, but it goes to show you that acting on a very good idea and seeing it through to the end can change your life for the better.
