Very few gadgets have transformed the way people enjoy relaxing at home like the remote control. Although smartphones may be the most advanced personal gadget today, the remote control was perhaps the first technological addition to the house that truly shifted the perception of leisure. Controlling televisions and radios from a distance meant far greater freedom and comfort while relaxing.

The next major progression was the universal remote. These remotes had settings for different devices, and could control them if properly set up. This was another step in the right direction in terms of enjoying entertainment systems. However, these remotes suffer from several issues, like only being compatible with certain devices and difficulties with pairing to devices.

The Sevenhugs Smart Remote presents another shift in this industry. It is a smart device that is able to effortlessly connect to thousands of devices throughout the home. Its touch screen and intuitive interface mean that not only is this device extremely user-friendly, it is also sleek and attractive.

The team behind this smart remote is Sevenhugs. This peculiar name is actually an indication of the company’s dedication to improving the quality of life for families. It was so named because at the time, the four men who founded the company had seven children between them, and they loved giving their children hugs. The team is composed of experts in the technology industry.

Timeline

A significant amount of time and energy has gone into developing every detail of this remote. The team spent several years performing research and development before feeling that the device was ready for consumers.

The idea for the device was introduced in January of 2014. By June of the same year, the first pre-prototypes were created. This led to the unveiling of the first prototype at TechCrunch Disrupt in December.

Further demonstrations and developments took place in early 2016, with the second prototype being created in March. The third prototype is being tested in November.

The remainder of 2016 and early 2017 will consist of a great deal of work, ensuring that all of the necessary certifications are acquired. This will lead to the first round of shipping in June, with the second round taking place in July.

Funding

The public response to this device has been astounding. Not only has the Kickstarter campaign surpassed its $50,000 goal, it has done so nearly ten times over. So far, the device has raised over $460,000 from 3169 backers.

The Remote

The Sevenhugs Smart Remote is a device unlike any other on the market. It is simple and quick to operate, and has a wide range of compatible devices. This means that this remote can be a connective hub for just about every device in the house, from televisions to thermostats and beyond. Its sleek design and colorful touch screen make it a pleasure to use

Perhaps the best feature of this device is its simplicity. Using the remote entails no more than pointing it towards a device that the user wishes to control, and using the touch screen. The remote will automatically display a custom screen for each device with the according settings. Further, if two devices are close to each other, it will offer choices for the user to select.

In addition to this, the device allows users to customize its use. This means that the user can set locations of the house to be connected to different devices. For example, pointing the remote at the fireplace can bring up the thermostat controls, or pointing it at the door can bring up the Uber controls.

The intuitive interface of the remote makes it simple and easy to use with countless devices throughout the home.

Connectivity

The other main benefit of this remote is the staggering number of devices and apps that it can control. While most remotes are restricted to one or two devices, the Sevenhugs Smart Remote is compatible with over 25,000.

This includes the normal devices that one would expect, such as televisions, radios, and DVD players. However, it can also control thermostats, Uber, display the weather, and much more. Essentially, the remote can control any device that connects through Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or infrared.

Its app is compatible with both iOS and Android.

Convenience

In addition to its simplicity and incredible connectivity, the remote also offers features that make it one of the most user-friendly devices imaginable. One of the most notable features is its ability to group settings. This means that one click can dim the lights, turn on the TV, and start a movie

Further, it addresses one of the main issues of remote controls: finding it. While most remotes end up lost between seat cushions and can be difficult to find, the Sevenhugs Smart Remote is easy to locate. Simply pressing the lost and found button on the charger will cause the remote to ring.

Battery

The remote is equipped with a Lithium Ion battery. This provides for outstanding battery life, lasting several days on a single charge. As well, the device only takes a couple of hours to completely charge on its charging pad.

Price

Due to the immense popularity of this device, the deals on Kickstarter are selling out quickly. Early purchasers can still enjoy the product for only $149. It will retail at $299. There are also several bundles available.

Conclusion

The Sevenhugs Smart Remote presents a new era of universal remote controls. It is able to connect to a wide variety of devices and services, and is extremely simple to use. Its intuitive touch screen adapts to the device being pointed at, meaning it will only display the controls for the desired device.

As well, the device is small, sleek, and modern. Anyone who is tired of using several clunky remote controls will love this device. It brings just about every smart device in the house together in a unified, streamlined way.
