Each year we enjoy the thrill of discovery as we trace the rumors of a new model coming from our favorite auto makers. We make speculations based on the stolen images of test runs and try to figure out what lies beneath the camouflage that is skillfully administered to keep the carefully guarded secrets for the grand unveiling. It’s hard to wait so we prefer to find out what we can about the new cars that will be paraded so elegantly across the stage when each makes its official debut.
There are some sweet sporty rides that are set to be released in 2018. We’ve been able to gather some facts and make a few guesses as to what we’ll see in the near future. It is with great excitement that we take a closer look at what we are all so anxiously awaiting with our picks for the top ten sports cars to look for in 2018.
2018 Audi RS1
The German automaker is dishing out its latest performance car that will be a four wheel drive compact with a hatch. We’re fairly confident that the new RS1 will emerge with a plethora of adornments that are pleasing to the eye. The 2018 will feature redesigned oversized exhaust tips and will be lower because of the new suspension. The interior should be similar to the S1 model with a flat bottomed steering wheel and contrasting stitching on the sporty seats.
We’re also expecting upgraded technology for safety, practical use and for entertainment. The new model will be powered by a turbocharged four cylinder 2.0 liter engine with a six speed manual tranny. We’re estimating that the new RS1 will jump from zero to sixty in 5.8 seconds or less. There is no official confirmation for the release date or pricing but we expect to see it hit the showroom floors near the end of 2017 or the beginning of 2018 with a price range of somewhere between $35,000 to $51,000.
2018 BMW M5
We’re fortunate to have our hands on the leaks that give us a preview of what we can expect from BMW with their latest M5. It will be powered with a 4.4 liter V8 engine. The super saloon is scheduled to make its debut publicly in 2017 but is not likely to be for sale until early in 2018. The exterior will sport four exhaust pipes or an aggressive appearance with a redesign of the front bumper that will accommodate larger air intakes for cooling the engine which will deliver enhanced power.
The design will also improve aerodynamics for greater speed. We also noticed in our sneak peek that the rear bumper looks a bit different with the four tipped exhaust. The interior will have a sporty air about it with new trim adornments and a carbon fiber finish .We may see some new stitching which will add nice contrast for the interior as well, particularly if they are the signature blue and red colors. Also watch for upgraded equipment onboard with the latest technology. We’ll be looking at a price tag of between $100,000 on up depending on the options which are selected.
2018 Jaguar XE
We’re expecting this new five seat beauty to arise as the best in its class. The interior will jsport leather, wood and brushed aluminum materials that create a sensory experience of classy comfort and luxury. The InControl infotainment system is upgraded for your enjoyment. The 2018 version will put you in control on the road with a more lightweight construction and sporty suspension components that allow you to choose from adaptive to sport for the maximum in driving comfort and handling ease.
The diesel engine is now made with lightweight materials and will come in a 2.0 4 cylinder or you may opt for the petrol type. There will also be a supercharged 3.0 liter V6 at your disposal if you crave more power. You’ll even have onboard wifi that can accommodate up to 8 separate devices. You’ll find that the front seat offers adults generous roominess with the back portion more suitable for smaller adults and children. Convenient pockets are placed on all doors for additional storage with a set of cup holders in the front in the center of the armrest.
The XE petrol engine will go from zero to sixty two miles per hour in 6.9 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph. It will be rated at 37.7 mpg combined driving. We’re unsure of the expected release date but believe that it will emerge for sale at the end of 2017 or at the beginning of 2018 with a price range of between
$33,729.41 to $56,689.
2018 Alfa Romeo Alfetta
The new Alfetta will be an expansion edition with new mid size exec saloon. It will give the Mercedes E Class a run for its money as well as the BMW 5 and the Audi 6 for certain. No confirmations have been made by the manufacturer but the rumors are flying wildly. Where there’s smoke, there is sure to be fire. We expect to see the same cabin design as seen in the Giulia with no major departures from the subtle attractiveness we’re used to seeing on the outside. It will have a more conservative impact visually from the outside and this is what we have come to expect.
It is rumored that there will be an elongation of the Giulia platform with options for either four wheel drive or the standard rear wheel drive. We believe that the UK will have a choice of an eight speed automatic with the rest of the world offered a six speed manual. The engine is likely to be a 2.9 liter V6 witth 503 hp which will deliver enough power to please most Alfa Romeo enthusiasts. The company is not committing to a release date, price estimate or the confirmation that this car is currently in production so we’re going on faith that the rumors about it are true.
2018 Audi Q8
The new 2018 model made its first public appearance at the 2017 Detroit Motor Show and it made a great first impression. It is an e-tron type that gets its power from both electric motors and a 328 hp V6 engine. The SUV will appeal to a wider segment of the population because of its practicality for families. Its large size is sporty with a large grille and huge air intakes for cooling the internal components. It has a good height and contrasting side skirts in silver that help in reducing the boxiness of the appearance. This is also aided by a sloping roofline and the sporty spoiler for aesthetics sake.
A futuristic infotainment screen gives it an updated interior appearance with black gloss touchscreens for driver convenience. The battery pack is rear mounted. When the petrol option is selected, the Q8 has the capacity of jumping from zero to sixty two mph in 5.4 seconds with a max speed of 155 mph. All wheel drive comes in handy for slick road conditions offering additional road grip. The blue beauty is expected to be available early in 2018 with a price range between $62,935.00 to $81,815.50.
2018 Lamborghini Huracan
This will be Italy’s premiere supercar with high performing features. This two seater is an improved version that will offer much better handling and performance on the road. Although the active steering and unsupportive seats could use a little reworking, the braking system is brilliant and the V10 engine delivers vision blurring speeds. The interior will be filled with cool details including soft leather as a surface treatment, a dizzying display of toggle switches and a TFT screen to replace the dials we’ve all become familiar with. The blind spots have been addressed to improve driver visibility which was a necessity for safer driving.
The seats are black buckets of carbon fiber and the manufacturer offers a description of ultra supportive but in actual use, long driving trips will give you a major backache. The road noise in the new model will be lower and controls for dampening are located on the steering wheel via an easy to toggle switch. It will be powered by a 5.2 liter V10 engine in an updated version of the one used in the Gallardo. It will deliver 602 hp and torque of 413 lb ft for jumping from zero to sixty in 3.2 seconds with a max speed of 202 mph. The mpg rating is officially set at 22 mpg but we’re thinking that something closer to 20 will be accurate. The Huracan will be available for purchase in early 2018 at a starting price of $228,951.24.
2018 Mercedes A-Class
We’re expecting to see the new Mercedes A-Class in late 2017 as it launches along with the new hatchback. We caught a glimpse of this beauty though spy shots and from what we can tell, it will feature the same MFA as the A class with a bit of an update. The car will be larger with added width andlength, but will also be lighter because of the use of new lightweight materials which most automakers are leaning towards these days. We’re expecting it to offer increased leg room for passengers in the back seats. The engine will most likely be an AMG A45 with 400 hp. We could also see options for a 1.6 liter gas engine or a 1.5 liter diesel for the sake of fuel efficiency. We also expect offerings of a standard six speed manual and a seven to nine speed automatic dual clutch tranny. There has been talk of an autonomous driving system associated with this model, but there has been no official confirmation of this as of yet. We do know that standard safety equipment will offer adaptive cruise control, evasive steering assist, brake assist, traffic jam assist and lane keeping assist. We’re looking for a starting price of $25184.00 for the basic model and up.
2018 Volvo XC60
Volvo has been proficient in hiding the details of its new XC60 in test drives but we were able to discern some of the details of the new model. A first is the Thor’s Hammer headlights with braek lights that are angular and a little tall on the tall side. The shape is a bit on the boxy side but the curved roofline tempers this look and its sport appeal is enhanced by the rear windscreen that is angled steeply. It is a mid sized SUV and we expect it to be powered with a 2.0 liter petrol or diesel engine with front and four wheel drive options. There is talk about a hybrid model coming on the heels of the release which is expected in the early part of 2018. The starting price will be $28,929.40 upwards to $50,303.40 for the more top end versions.
2018 Rolls-Royce Cullinan
This will be an SUV model that is confirmed to be in its production stage. We don’t have a lot to go on as to what it will look like officially, but we’re expecting to see the traditional Rolls appearance along the same lines as the Ghost. It will feature a more rugged look suitable for an SUV with the trademark upright grill, suicide rear hinged rear doors and slimmer headlights. We also believe that there will be ample passenger and luggage space. It should come with a 6.6 liter twin turbo 12 engine and an updated infotainment system. The manufacturer has provided some hints that the new Rolls will be easier to drive and we’re assuming that there will be updates to the suspension. I is set for release in late 2017 and will be offered at a price range of $314346.25 to $628,650.00.
2018 BMW X7 SUV
This new seven seat SUV will offer the finest of German automaking innovation. It will no doubt be among the top SUVs in the supercar class when it hits the market in late 2018. Although the test cars were well hidden, we could see that the new SUV has a stretched wheelbase and a straighter roof with a sporty appearance. We’re seeing an edition that offers the back seat passengers more space. Chrome exhaust tips and several large air intakes suggest that it will have an efficient system for cooling the massive engine. There will be a choice of 3.0 liter diesel and a 4.4 liter twin turbo petrol with talk of a V12 with eight speed automatic transmissions. The cabin will be luxurious and roomy with updated technology onboard and an enhanced infotainment system. It will be a high profile model that could be offered as a hybrid in the near future. The estimated price range will be $81,816.80 to $125,872.00.
