The Remarkable Onboard Experiences and Superb Hospitality of Oceania’s Allura

There are literally dozens of reasons why, when considering which luxury cruise to take, that all considerations point to Oceania’s beautiful Allura. Unveiled in mid-2025 as Oceania’s eighth member of her fleet, this 804-foot, all veranda stateroom ship has a 1200-guest capacity in double occupancy, spanning 16 decks. Since January of 2026, it’s now adults only, ensuring a peaceful ambience that compliments the tranquil atmosphere and stellar service for which it’s known.
The 14-day Allura voyage I enjoyed commenced in Miami and made calls in Charleston, SC, with overnight, multi-day stops in Norfolk, VA, Bermuda, and the Bahamas, allowing for true immersion and exploration. Its utterly delightful and hospitable 800-crew members reflected a veritable United Nations, representing 47 nations. This provided an outstanding guest-to-crew ratio of 3:2 with international élan. Their consistent smiles were contagious, and their constant kindness was ever present.
Even though the ship was at capacity on this voyage, with about 70-percent North American and the balance hailing from all over Europe and South America, Allura’s intelligent design, expansive layout, plethora of public spaces, lounges, restaurants, bars, and cafés meant that the ship seemed half full, even during mealtimes. More remarkable, from shortly after embarkation, crew members remembered guests’ names adding to the feeling of truly being at home, albeit a luxury one cruising the high seas.
Designed for the Discerning Traveler by Studio DADO

Miami-based Studio DADO designed the Allura with a contemporary feel. While modern, it’s invitingly warm and inherently comfortable. Upon entry, prepare to be bowled over by the massive two-story flowing, breathtaking crystal chandelier that hangs amid the Atrium’s curved marble staircase. All public areas are chic and spacious with textured seating wherever you stop. Light marble, clean lines, and panache are the prevailing sensations.
This is extended to the stateroom hallways where carpets in shades of blue, white, and gray, instill the ocean’s serenity. It’s the timeless, elegant, comforting design that affluent travelers have come to expect. Guests will also likely come away with several design ideas to implement in their own residences around the world.

Adding to the culturally rich atmosphere onboard is a museum-worthy art collection. There are several large and dramatic canvases by Daniel Brice, Margaret Ross Tolbert, and Tara Fernandez adding a sense of vogue. Another reason to take the stairs is that several landings also have more art, including interesting marble sculptures that make a swift ascent or descent quite impossible. Being late to various meeting times as my art admiration got the best of me occurred regularly. An immersive digital art tour highlighting the ship’s curated art collection provided artists’ backgrounds, passions, and creative motivations that fostered further art appreciation.
Well-Being Induced by Stately, Serene Staterooms

To say that Allura’s all-balcony staterooms are generously sized across all categories, would be an understatement. The Concierge Solo Veranda stateroom measures 270-square feet. The Veranda and Concierge Veranda staterooms all measure 291-square feet. Larger Penthouse Suites range from 440-square feet to Owners’ Suites with an astonishing 2,200 to 2,400-square feet.
Staying in a Concierge Veranda stateroom decorated in a cream, taupe, and white palette had me taking deep breaths and cajoled me into calmness. It had a 60-inch flatscreen television, double seating area, and marble coffee table. A desk, plenty of strategically placed USB ports and outlets, and daily replenished minibar with my favorites items enhanced my comfort. Stateroom carpets are natural, hypoallergenic, un-dyed wool, and happily fragrant free. The seventh generation Tranquility mattresses are divine, and linens woven with intoxicating 1,000-count sheets making getting out of bed supremely challenging.

The enormous gray and white Carrera-style marble bathroom had more than double the cabinet and storage space than those of similar categories on this size ship. The double-sized walk-in shower had easy-to-operate, intuitively controlled rain and standard shower heads, Aquamar amenities, and incredibly soft, single-twist, cotton-ribbed towels. Staterooms also have the most user-friendly climate control mechanism I’ve encountered on land or at sea. Every detail was so purposefully thought to perfection, it was like home, only better as cabin stewards kept my suite spotless and routinely asked if anything was desired.
Food Fanatics Will be in a Perpetual State of Bliss

Admittedly, I am an extremely skilled eater. Fortunately for me and 1,200 of my new closest friends, Oceania features some of the finest cuisine at sea, and Allura’s uber-talented Senior Executive Chef Sebyton Fernandes – a 20-year veteran with Oceania – continues that delectable tradition. Incredibly, the Allura has one chef for every eight passengers, and this high ratio explains in part while dining onboard is so consistently delicious.

With Oceania 10 years, Executive Pastry Chef Andrea Serpe, is responsible not only for the finest croissants and pain au chocolat at sea, but also a continuation of Marie Antoinette’s infamous musing. So aboard Allura, guests will enjoy not only the finest patisserie imaginable but also swoon worthy breads.

Oceania’s signature restaurants onboard Allura are the Italian Toscana boasting an olive oil sommelier, the pan-Asian Red Ginger with its beloved miso-glazed sea bass, and the Polo Grill classic steakhouse serving mouthwatering Surf&Turf and succulent lobster mac&cheese. There are also the staple favorites: the Grand Dining Room boasting 270 new recipes including daily vegetarian and Aquamar healthy options, the Terrace Café, Waves Grill, and the innovative Aquamar Kitchen wellness-inspired eatery with poke bowls, fish tacos, fresh juices and smoothies. These are now joined by additional dining options.
Allura’s new reimagined signature French restaurant Jacques is named for fabled, storied chef Jacques Pépin, Oceania’s first culinary director. Jacques serves classically prepared escargot, Dover sole, lobster Thermidor, and contemporary takes on classics such as hand-cut beef tartar deftly prepared table side making dining truly experiential. The trolly’s cheese selections may swear you off desserts. At least once.

Located near beloved Baristas serving fine gourmet coffees and their signature, highly addictive “crema” – a frozen, creamy, mocha slice of heaven – and The Bakery where I spent countless hours in a delightful state of caffeinated, high carb bliss, is The Crêperie. It can’t be missed due to its enticing aroma drawing in guests. Serving authentic French crepes, its masterpieces are Belgian Waffles and irresistible Bubble Waffles enveloping delectable soft-serve gelato sundaes. Did I mention the soft-serve frozen yogurt in crunchy waffle cones? I could divulge the number of those I devoured during the cruise, however, what happens at sea, stays at sea. However, if anyone needed to find me at 3:00pm daily, just as sure as Big Ben strikes, it was at The Crêperie.

Also launched with Allura is the new Gérard Bertrand Cellar Masters wine-paired luncheons with sommelier-curated, multi-course menus. Experiencing these are akin to a pilgrimage into the very heart of the perfect union of food to wine, all explained by passionate sommeliers and the talented chefs who grace the kitchen. There’s also Moet & Chandon Champagne paired dining experiences and Dom Pérignon Experiences in the intimate venue Privée. Despite all these options, and while not a regular tea drinker, the classic afternoon tea in Horizon’s Lounge is a dignified marvel complete with classical music and pays homage to Britain’s beloved tradition. Then of course there’s 24-hour room service with a revitalized menu offering a multitude of options delivered swiftly whenever the mood strikes.
Enriching Onboard Experiences

The LYNC Digital Center offers daily complimentary digital learning classes ranging from social media essentials, smart phone technology, photography, and AI use. Classes were extremely informative, popular, and well attended.
In another inspiring and bright space is the Allura’s Artists Loft. Here experienced artists-in-residence instruct and guide guests to unlock their own creative abilities. On this itinerary, artist-in-residence Tangerine Summer offered classes in drawing sea scapes, tropical fish, coral, shell, and sailboat painting. While quitting my day job to become an artist may not be in my future, classes were relaxing and enjoyable.
Attending several onboard lectures that dovetailed with the itinerary was delightful. There were lectures on piracy along the eastern seaboard, Bahamanian history, and the infamous triangle of Bermuda, all excellently delivered by historian Brian Unger. Lecturer Michael West delivered several on ship building, war ships, and history of shipping development. The expansive Library allowed guests to expand their knowledge base following these interesting lectures.

Wanting to enjoy all the excellent dining options onboard, using the spacious Fitness Center with floor-to-ceiling windows was key to disembarking the same size as upon embarkation. There were daily classes to choose from including spinning and yoga and plenty of TechnoGym treadmills, Stairmasters, all manner of exercise machines, and free weights. At Aquamar Spa & Vitality Center, a full spa menu is available in a Zen atmosphere with an adjacent Spa Terrace, perhaps my favorite spot. At the light-filled Salon, talented hairdressers are curators of beauty while men have a plethora of services available as well, all priced the same as in urban centers.

At the Culinary Center, Allura’s expanded onboard Culinary Enrichment Program is housed in a state-of-the-art cooking studio boasting 24 stations that would’ve turned Julia Child enviously green. Here Chef instructor Kelly Evans taught informative, easy-to-learn regional and dessert courses. Taking “The Old Man and the Sea” course we learned how to make several fish dishes, including Red Ginger’s Miso-glazed sea bass. No doubt my family will be very pleased with this new skill.

Even if you never exit the ship – and you surely will as the immersive itineraries are interesting – guests will have varied onboard experiences, with something for every taste, all while being cared for in ways other cruise lines can only aspire to achieve. This no doubt explains why so many Oceania passengers book future cruises on Allura while still onboard. Happy travels!
