If you follow business, you’ve probably heard of Gail Boudreaux. Currently, she is the CEO of Anthem, one of the largest healthcare companies in existence. In fact, it is the second largest company in the world that is operated by a female CEO. While that’s an interesting fact, it doesn’t tell you much about the person. For most people, it would be a big enough honor to end up on the Forbes Most Powerful Women list but she actually spent six consecutive years on yet another highly publicized and very prestigious list. This time around, it was the Fortune Magazine list concerning the most successful CEOs.

After she worked her way up through many of the ranks in healthcare insurance companies, she eventually decided to step away from it and create her own consulting firm with the express purpose of helping clients better understand their healthcare insurance options. She also worked tirelessly to help individuals gain access to insurance for more affordable rates, something that she has had a long-standing and passionate belief in.

Not only does she make waves in the boardroom, she’s also an outstanding athlete. From a young age, she always displayed a great deal of talent in sports. When she was in high school, she started out on the basketball team and by all accounts, she was a natural. When she went to college, she played both basketball and participated in track and field with the shot-put.

When she went to college at Dartmouth University, she was almost instantly recognized as someone that was very gifted in the classroom and when it came to sports. She graduated with honors and helped her basketball team go to the championships. She also became nationally recognized in the shot-put during her college years as well.

She always had her eyes set on success in business so after she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree, she decided to attend Columbia University to get her Masters in Business. From the time that she graduated in 1989, she’s never looked back and she’s been changing the face of healthcare as it relates to insurance companies ever since.

One of the reasons that she has remained so active in this particular field is because she has seen what it does to people when they can’t get insurance to cover the healthcare they need. Obviously, she wouldn’t have had so much success in this particular line of work if she didn’t understand the way insurance companies process claims.
