What do you know about one of the country’s most influential Chief Executive Officers, Ryan Lance? He’s currently the CEO of ConocoPhillips, which is easily one of the most well-known oil companies throughout the world. While you might know a thing or two about the company itself, you might not be as aware of things about the individual who is at the helm. 1. He’s a Montana native
He’s always been fond of Montana and has spent the majority of his life there. According to him, he will be the first to admit that Montana may not be for everyone. That being said, it does have a way of working itself into the hearts of many individuals and once it does, it never lets go. Therefore, he will always consider Montana home, no matter where his job takes him.
2. He even graduated from high school in the state
When he completed high school, he graduated from Great Falls High School in Montana. While most people were looking for a reason to get out of the state as soon as they got out of high school, he made the decision to stay and go on to college there.
3. He chose to get a Bachelor’s degree in a challenging field
Lance went to college in order to become a petroleum engineer. If you think that sounds complicated, you’re right. He got a Bachelor’s degree in the subject, one of the most challenging subjects offered by the university he attended. It requires a great deal of study in math and science in order to get the degree, and it’s something that most people must dedicate themselves completely to in order to succeed. Clearly, he did exactly that.
4. His alma mater was related to the University of Montana
If you want to be technical about things, he got his Bachelor’s degree from Montana Tech, but that is a subsidiary of the University of Montana. That particular campus deals with the more technical aspects of college life, making it the perfect place to get a degree in engineering.
5. He has chosen to make the oil and gas industry his life
Clearly, Lance had a plan long before he ever graduated from high school. He knew what type of field he wanted to work in and what was required of him to be successful in that field. As a result, he’s been in the oil and gas industry his entire adult life, something that he chose long before he was ever out of his teens.
6. He has a great deal of professional experience
As you might have guessed, he has more than his fair share of experience in this industry. After all, people don’t get hired to become a CEO is overnight. He’s worked for a number of high-profile companies and has held several decision making positions at ConocoPhillips, all before he was promoted to CEO.

If you’ve never heard of the Society of Professional Engineers, it’s probably because it’s something that’s known only to engineers, at least for the most part. To date, he sits on the Board of Directors of no less than three organizations, including the Independent Petroleum Association of America, Spindletop International and the American Petroleum Institute.

It’s his way of helping to ensure that other young individuals get the same opportunities for success that he had, through hard work and perseverance.

There is no doubt that he’s dedicated to the industry in which he chose to work. People don’t achieve the things that he has achieved without putting in a tremendous amount of time and effort.
