How Long Should a Company Retreat Last?

Each year there will come a time when you start thinking about your company getaway. You’ll be thinking about where you should go for your company retreat, how many days you should go for, who you should invite and what you should do. These are all valid thoughts as when you go away, your employees won’t be working, which could affect your revenue and your clients.

The question of how long should a company retreat last very much depends on a few things. The type of company you are, the time of year you are going, how much money you have available to spend and if you know your employees will enjoy it. For example, you could do a Camino Portugues Coastal Route from Baiona in 8 days or you could book a city break to Paris in France for two nights over the weekend – both have their pros and cons.

To help give you some insight, below we have put together our guide on how long should a company retreat last.

Do you have clients?

The first thing to think about is your clients and how they will be affected when you go away. If you have clients that require a lot of your attention, it can be harder to go away for a longer period of time, as you will not be able to service them as well, when you are away, especially if you go abroad. If you have limited contact with clients, then this opens the door to a longer company retreat.

Can you go through a quiet period?

When you go away can very much decide on the length as well. Depending on the type of business you run, there may be a quieter period than others, which makes for a perfect time to go and can allow a few extra days for your company retreat. For example, Christmas is for a lot of companies very quiet and the perfect time to go away. If you can’t go over Christmas, January can also be slower or during the school holidays if you work with schools as they won’t be open.

What is your budget like?

Budget plays a very important factor in how long you can go away. As you can imagine, the larger the budget, the more options you have on retreats and the longer you can go as more days are often more expensive. If you know you are likely to go away each year, try to book your company retreat as soon as possible as the prices can be better and this gives you longer to budget for it.

We hope we have given you some insight into how long a company retreat should last. We know this can be a tricky decision and the last thing you want is for a breakaway to affect your clients – they are the ones paying your bills after all!
