How Ricky Gervais Achieved a Net Worth of $110 Million

Ricky Gervais is a popular actor and stand up comedian from the United Kingdom. He has been keeping audiences throughout the world entertained with his dry sense of humor. Gervais is best known for his comedy tours and his multinational approach, bringing laughs to several different countries where he’s been quite well-received. As of 2019 he’s managed to accumulate a net wealth of a whopping $110 million, but how did he do it? Did his comedy act make him well over $100 million? We checked into Ricky’s career and this is what we learned.

His early years

Ricky Gervais was born in 1961 in Reading, but he grew up in Whitley. His father was a Canadian immigrant who moved to England while World War II was underway. Gervais has three siblings and he was raised in a home with a stay at home mom and a father who worked at labor jobs. The Gervais family was not rich and they knew what hard work was all about. Although he’s a very wealthy man today, Ricky Gervais knows what it’s like to be in the blue collar sector of society. He credits his sense of humor and wittiness to his mother and father.

Gervais graduated from high school and he got a job working as a gardener at the University of Reading. He went on to attend school at the University College of London where he began his studies in biology but made a switch to the philosophy program. He had a successful college career graduating the second class honors and a degree. While attending school, he met his now partner Jane Fallon in 1982 and the two are still in a relationship.

His career

Ricky started his professional career in the music business. He and college pal Bill Macrae were in a band called Seona Dancing and they signed a contract with London records, releasing two singles. Their songs didn’t make it to the charts in the United Kingdom. In the 1990s he became a manager for the band Suede prior to their achievement of success. While at the university, he worked in radio as well. He embarked on his comedy routine in the late 1990s and it was so popular that it resulted in his making five tours throughout the world.

Gervais also became an actor and was cast in the Netflix Special Correspondents and Muppets Most Wanted. He was big into animation. He and Stephen Merchant were co-creators of the monumental comedy hit “The Office.” The television series became a big hit in the United Kingdom. He was no only an actor in t the series which was later adapted to another popular series in the United States starring Steve Carell. He also served as writer for the BBC sketch “Bruiser.”

Ricky Gervais has had a woderfully diverse career and he’s still going strong. In addition to multiple comedy tours, he’s been an actor, a voice actor, he’s been involved with radio, music, management in the business and he’s even the author of a book series called the “Flanimals.” He’s also been involved in talk shows and film. In 2005, he developed a video podcast which was his own talk show called “The Ricky Gervais Show,” and it was one of the most downloaded podcasts at the time. An HBO animated series was launched as a result of the podcast. The Office came back to Xfm for a radio show in 2011 and in 2017, he became the host of a Sirius XM show called “Ricky Gervais is Deadly Sirius.” We also discovered that his book series “The Flanimals” is being considered for an adaptation for film/TV.

Ricky Gervais’ Awards

Gervais has had a long and successful career and he’s not finished yet. so far, he’s been identified as the third most influential person within British culture in a 2004 poll. He received the Rose d’Or award in 2006. He’s also been the recipient of two Emmy Awards, three Golden Globes, five British Comedy Awards and seven BAFTA Awards. Ricky Gervais is a highly celebrated celebrity personality in the entertainment industry. He’s even done some writing and directing. The fortune of $110 million that represents his net worth has been earned through his career in entertainment.
