20 Things You Didn't Know about SkySpecs

Wind Turbines

What do you know about SkySpecs, the company that is taking infrastructure inspection to an entirely new level? If you’re in that particular line of work, you might well know a great deal about them. Otherwise, this could potentially be the first time you're hearing of them. If that’s the case, there is little doubt that you will want to learn more about this dynamic company that is genuinely changing the way its customers do business. If you’re curious, here are 20 things about the company that will undoubtedly open your eyes to the innovative things this company is achieving.

1. They tailor their program to fit their customers’ needs

There's no doubt about it, the company tailors their program to fit the needs of their customers as opposed to offering a one-size-fits-all perspective. This allows the company to get more business and it also streamlines costs associated with the particular client that they're working with at the time. When it's all said and done, it's a win-win situation for both this corporation and their clients because it allows them to do exactly what needs to be done while simultaneously minimizing both costs and resources. If they need to scale those resources up or down, they can do it in a matter of days.

2. They’re doing their part to help protect the planet

It would only stand to reason that a company that is in existence for the sole purpose of making the planet a healthier place to live would be doing their own part to protect it. As such, they routinely work with companies that are already of a like-minded attitude when it comes to minimizing the carbon footprint on the planet by giving them ways to inspect their infrastructure and keep everything moving at a smooth pace while simultaneously reducing the amount of money, time and effort required to do so. This allows more companies the opportunity to come on board and keep sites that are already operating in good standing.

3. They monitor almost half the wind turbines in North America

It's interesting to note that out of all the wind turbines located in North America, this company is responsible for inspecting 47% of them. It's also worth noting that this particular number is growing on a daily basis so by the time you actually read this, they may well be inspecting more than half of the wind turbines in existence. They're also actively working to secure accounts with the companies that are just bringing new wind turbines online, meaning that they will largely be responsible for inspecting the ones that are built in the future as well.

4. They’re an old pro at inspecting wind turbine blades

You might say that they've learned a thing or two when it comes to inspecting the blades of wind turbines, having inspected more than 300,000 of them to date. That's definitely a large number, but there's much more at stake here. They know exactly what to look for and when they do detect a problem, and they can often put measures in place to get that turbine back up and running much more quickly. Imagine their methods as they use drones to inspect these turbines as opposed to the old-fashioned way of inspecting them when companies were forced to send crews out once every so many months to see which turbines were still operating and which ones needed maintenance.

5. They’re growing and expanding to fit an ever-changing industry

Of course, this is a company that is growing with the industry. They have no intention of remaining stagnant and they certainly don't have a history of doing that, either. As a matter of fact, they started with nothing more than drones that were designed to inspect turbines and other similar types of infrastructure. Currently, they still have that side of the business, plus they are working to install solar panels and other types of services that allow wind turbine farms to become more self-sufficient. The idea is to stay ahead of the industry as opposed to racing to keep up with something that's already changed.

6. Customers know what’s happening in real time

One of the things that customers like so much about this corporation is that they know what's happening with their wind turbines in real time. It's all handled through sophisticated electronics and software programs. In short, the drones are capable of transmitting any information about problems they find back to the client through Bluetooth technology. This gives the client an opportunity to understand what's happening in real time and get a crew out there to fix it as opposed to waiting for months on end to even discover a problem.

7. They have a dedicated team of employees that care about the environment

It shouldn't come as any surprise that they have a dedicated team of employees that care just as much about the environment as they do. In fact, many would call their staff members experts at what they do. Perhaps the most important thing is that they are a group of experts with a passion for making the planet a healthier, safer place for future generations to live.

8. The company keeps its own carbon footprint to an absolute minimum

The company uses the same technology that it provides to its clients to keep its own carbon footprint as small as possible. That includes installing solar panels and finding ways to reuse energy as opposed to burning fossil fuels to power their buildings. For them, it's all about truly engaging in this particular type of behavior as opposed to merely making money off of other people who engage in it and then doing the exact opposite when they think no one is looking.

9. They’re currently operating from five offices around the globe

At the moment, they operate five different offices around the world. Those offices are currently located in Denmark, the Netherlands, India, Ireland and the United States. This gives the company an opportunity to work as effectively as possible, no matter where their clients are located. It makes it easy to understand why they are responsible for inspecting almost half of the wind turbines in North America, to say the least.

10. They’re expanding into even more areas

At the moment, they're expecting to begin expanding into even more areas around the globe. As these types of wind turbine farms become more and more popular, they have plans to expand into these areas as well so that they can continue their mission around the world.

11. They have about 500 employees

Currently, the company has roughly 500 employees. Typically, the number of employees they have fluctuates somewhat. Traditionally, it has fluctuated between 250 to almost 500 employees, but that number is constantly growing because the company itself is acquiring more clients all the time. As a direct result, they need more people to keep the operation running as smoothly as possible. At the moment, the number of people they have working for them has been hovering closer to the 500 mark for some time, especially when compared to the number of people they employed when they were first getting started.

12. They’ve acquired two other companies

There's no doubt that the company is growing rather quickly. As a matter of fact, they've already acquired two other companies, Fincovi and Vertikal AI.These acquisitions allowed them to increase their capabilities by enhancing their resources as well as the number of people employed by them. When the company acquired the others, they kept all the employees on board that wanted to stay, significantly increasing their own employee base.

13. They currently have contracts with more than 70 clients

At the moment, they have contracts with 76 different clients in North America. As previously mentioned, that number is constantly growing. They are always working with new clients in order to provide necessary services so it only stands to reason that this number will likely increase dramatically in the years to come.

14. They’ve received more than $118 million in funding

Of course, a company that inspects this many wind turbines and is responsible for so many clients also needs to find a great deal of money in funding in order to keep things running smoothly. That's even more true when you consider the fact that the company is currently working to develop other types of energy saving resources to be used in conjunction with their wind turbine inspections. To date, they have received $118.7 million in funding. That number is sure to grow in the future.

15. They’re currently in their fourth round of fundraising

As a matter of fact, they are currently undergoing their fourth round or fundraising. It's not yet certain how much they will be able to raise from this particular round, but they do have a number of investors that are backing them (20 to be exact). It will be interesting to see how much money they're capable of gathering from this final round of fundraising for this fiscal year and how much that will eventually add to the previous $118 million.

16. They build most of their own equipment

One of the more interesting things about this particular company is that they build the overwhelming majority of their equipment in-house as opposed to sending orders for such equipment out to third parties. This allows them to build exactly what they need to get the job done and it also keeps costs to a minimum because they're not paying a middleman to get them the equipment that they need.

17. They routinely examine wind turbines built in the water

These days, it's not at all uncommon to find entire farms of wind turbines that are built in the ocean. As a matter of fact, many companies have turned to this because it is one of the more effective ways to build these turbines in order to get nearby homes and businesses the energy they need without encroaching upon land that simply isn't available in the quantities they need. In many cases, the geographic and meteorological conditions are also beneficial in these areas. The problem is, they need an effective way to examine these turbines and through this particular company, they have found exactly that. It makes it much more likely that more companies will build wind turbines in the ocean as opposed to creating land-based farms in the future.

18. Goldman Sachs is a major supporter

One of their major investors is Goldman Sachs. As a matter of fact, this company has produced $80 million in funding alone. Clearly, this is a company that believes in what this particular corporation is doing and wants to invest as much money as possible in order to give them an opportunity to succeed in their endeavors. It also served as a major endorsement to their abilities to get the job done quickly and efficiently, which has ultimately led to more investors showing a bona fide interest.

19. They work tirelessly to create new avenues toward renewable energy

This is a company that works all the time to create new ways to bring renewable energy to homes and businesses around the world. As such, they make every attempt possible to work with their clients from the very first autonomous wind turbine inspections all the way through to the most advanced renewable energy systems available. In addition, the company also works with its clients to help them achieve their goals from start to finish, thereby allowing them to minimize their own costs and focus on sustainability.

20. They’re currently hiring new staff members

It probably won't come as any surprise to learn that the company is currently hiring new staff members. Considering all of the new clients and the work will that they have, it's surprising that they didn't start making active efforts to hire significant numbers of staff members earlier. At the moment, anyone who has the desire and the level of skill necessary can potentially come on board for a rewarding career.
