Hotel II Pellicano - Porto Ercole, Tuscany, Italy


This resort opened its doors in the 1960's and was recently taken over by new management and the entire resort has had a makeover. It is just a 90 minute drive from Northeast Rome. It is set back from the main roadway, and is secluded by stone pines and cypresses. If you love a good sunset, you won't see a better one than you will at Hotel II Pellicano, as you have a great view all the way down the coast. The resort's décor would be considered Tuscan elegance with a bit of Spanish seaside and a French country house.

This resort looks more like a home than a resort, which is appealing to many travelers. Most people who stay at the resort find that there is no reason to leave. Within the resort, there is a fitness center complete with a steam room, a small yet beautiful spa, tennis courts, and a heated seawater pool. If you do feel the need to take a day away from the resort, the friendly and knowledgeable staff can point you in the direction of the best places to visit, including the Tarot Garden in Capalbio, which is located nearby.

The resort has 50 rooms in the main area and 50 villas, which they call cottages. You can either stay in the main area where all of the action is or if you want to stay in a quiet secluded area, the cottages are a great option.

When it comes to dining, the resort has two of the best restaurants in the area. If you are looking for a fancy dinner, you can dine at the II Pellicano. For a more laid back meal, you can eat at the al fresco Pelligrill. The chef at the resort's eateries won a second Michelin star for the person in 2014. You can enjoy gourmet seafood and Mediterranean cuisine. If you are looking to have just a cocktail, one of Italy's most famous bartenders, Federico Morosi, will be pouring drinks at the resort.

If you are hoping to make it a family trip, keep in mind that children under 12 years old cannot stay at the resort.

Hotel Santa Caterina - Amalfi, Salerno, Italy


This resort is not only considered the nicest on the coast, it is also considered to be the nicest in Italy. The resort is located among citrus groves, terraces, and pergola walks which take you right down to the gorgeous beach behind the resort. The inside of the resort is a Mediterranean style with gorgeous floors and a beautiful terrace that overlooks the beautiful gardens and the ocean. If you want to get to the pool, bar, and the beach shack restaurant to enjoy the live music and dancing, quickly, you can get on the glass lift that will take you right down quickly.

If you are looking for a resort with top notch service, this is the place to go. Each staff member will learn and remember your name and have a breezy conversation with you when they pass you in the resort. If you need a workout, you can visit the resort's fitness center complete with a sauna and a steam room. The pool is right by the bar, making it easy to get a quick drink while swimming. If you want a few relaxation or beauty treatments, you can visit the resort's spa.

There are 55 rooms in the main house which have either a sea view or a garden view. If you want to privacy, you can stay in one of the romantic standalone suites. Each suite is light, white, and airy, and all have gorgeous tiled bathrooms.

If you don't want to dine in the resorts beach shack restaurant for dinner, you can enjoy breakfast and dinner on the terrace overlooking the ocean. It can make for a very romantic date.

If you are hoping to take your kids on your trip, young children are welcome as long as they are always accompanied by a parent.

Belmond Hotel Splendido - Portofino, Liguira


This resort was originally a protected Benedictine monastery in the 16th century. In 1902, the building was transformed into a resort and was visited by famous people such as Winston Churchill, Ava Gardner, Marlon Brando, and Clark Gable. The resort itself is overlooking the beautiful Portofino harbor, with spectacular panoramic views of the Ligurian Sea. Since the resort is located on top of a steep hill, they offer free shuttle service for those who don't want to make the strenuous climb. If you want to take advantage of the best view in the hotel, you can take a dip in the saltwater infinity pool where you will have the most beautiful views of the Portofino harbor.

There is plenty to keep you busy at the resort, including the tennis courts, sauna, steam room and a state of the art fitness center. If you want to spend a day of beauty and relaxation, you can spend a few hours at the hotel spa.

There are 64 rooms in the resort and they fall into four categories, double rooms, junior suites, suites, and presidential suites. The standard rooms are decorated in cream and gold and have very impressive bathrooms. The suites are more contemporary than the standard rooms, and they are decorated in blue and pink. The suites include walk-in closets, electronic black-out blinds, and very comfortable beds.

Breakfast includes an a la carte menu with a large buffet which offers everything that you could ever want. If you want a relaxed lunch or dinner, the poolside restaurant serves buffet bites and pizza. If you are looking to have a drink, the cocktail lounge pours top shelf liquor and has a pianist playing. If you want a fancy dinner, you can dine at the sophisticated Chuflay restaurant, where the emphasis on the menu is on fish. Formal wear is required at this restaurant.

While children are welcome, the atmosphere is more for couples looking to have a romantic get away.

Hotel Tamariu - Tamariu, Costa Brava, Spain


This family run seafront resort is one of the most beautiful in all of Spain. The resort is located on a long stretch of beach, where you can take long romantic walks on the coastal paths. The décor in the main areas have a variety of personal touches, including photos of the owners' grandparents. You can even sit in the common area and play a game of Scrabble and Ludo.

This is a smaller resort, and has just the beach to keep you occupied, however, considering how gorgeous the beaches are, it should be more than enough.

The resort's restaurant looks out over the seafront promenade, so you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner watching the waves crash.

If you are considering taking the kids along, they are more than welcome. You can even have cots placed in your room at no extra charge.

W Barcelona - Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain


If you are visiting Barcelona for the beaches and the ocean, this is the perfect resort for you. The resort is located right on the edge of the water.

If yu are looking for some fun and excitement, you can head up to the Eclipse Bar on the 26th floor and listen to beats spun by London's best DJ's. If you want to spend your days relaxing by the pool, you can set up in a day bed or a private cabin right by the rooftop infinity pool. Here, you can enjoy the best views in all of Barcelona. If you need more to keep you happy than a gorgeous infinity pool and a drink made by one of Spain's most famous mixologists, you can get a goo workout in the resort's fitness center or take advantage of over 50 different treatments at the onsite spa.

You can request either a city view room or a sea view room. All of the rooms have small telescopes so that you can get the best view possible. Each of the room is decorated in colors to reflect the sea and the sand.

In the lobby is a floating fireplace where you can also order a drink. It is a great place to hang out and get to know other guests.
