Two All-Inclusive Hyatt Resorts Reflect Colorful Cancun
For those seeking an all-inclusive resort-style experience south of the border, Hyatt Hotels has two properties to consider in sunny Cancun. Easily accessible non-stop flights from most major U.S. cities make getting to Cancun International Airport fairly easy. Once there, it’s best to jump into a taxi already on site – but agree on the fare first – as it’s often difficult to locate pre-booked car services and they are not always on time given the heavy construction near the airport that is supposed to last until year end.
Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya
About 45-miutes from the airport, the recently opened Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya is an adults-only secluded oceanfront resort surrounded by lush mangroves. Entrance to the resort is via a guard gated, tree-lined private road. Zilara faces the azure Caribbean Sea fronting over an acre of white sand beach. The spacious lobby has travertine tiles with Doric-style columns and wrought iron railings.
Guest Rooms
The hotels 291 airy guestrooms start at nearly 500-square feet, have a neutral color palette with a minimalist design, an abundance of closet space, blooming orchids, and white, sailor’s rope wall hangings. Zilara’s high-count cotton sheets and marvelous bedding ensured perfect slumber.
Large, dual-sink bathrooms have marble vanities and enormous walk-in rain showers. Minibars are stocked with sodas, beers, and light snacks while the in-room Nespresso machines made mornings pleasurable.
Dining and Beverage Options
There are plenty of dining and beverage options with nine themed restaurants, bars, and lounges, plus 24-hour room service. Breakfast at El Comedor is an affair where choices must be made.
Every imaginable kind of fruit, fresh juices, baked goods turning anyone into a carbo-Queen, all manner of hot dishes, including made-to-order items, and a popular chilaquiles station.
One of my favorite spots was Coffee Republic. Like Starbucks only better, because in addition to specialty coffees and sweet goodies, an entire freezer of delicious Aldo ice creams.
If that’s not enough to float your boat, a churros cart is just in front. Another great spot is Lola Beach Restaurant & Mezcaleria where killer sunsets join delicious cocktails and local cuisine where sometimes, ethereal angels on stilts show up.
Fun Activities
There are plenty of activities on-site: yoga classes, aqua aerobics, water sports, a large gym, and an artificial turf tennis court. There is also a weekly, Shaman-led Mayan cultural dance experience where homage is paid to nature’s gods.
The nearly 14,000-square foot Zen Spa boasts a hydrotherapy circuit under a hacienda-style thatched roof, 10 indoor treatment rooms and a variety of services as well as a full-service beauty salon.
Or you can do nothing at all and enjoy the sun, water, swim-up bar, and tropical drinks.
If you can tear yourself away from the resort, happening Playa del Carmen is just a few miles away, while Tulum is about a 40-minute drive, depending on traffic.
Hyatt Ziva Riviera Cancun
For those traveling with children, Hyatt Ziva Riviera Cancun provides an all-inclusive experience for kids of all ages. Reopened in September 2021, Ziva is normally just 20-minutes to or from Cancun airport, however airport construction made my airport return trip over an hour, so you’ll want to leave plenty of time to catch your flight.
Ziva has 438 spacious guestrooms decorated in neutral tones with turquoise pops of color. A fully equipped replenished minibar included Chilean cabernet, hard seltzers, beers, sodas, snacks, and a Nespresso machine.
Modern dual-sink granite and marble bathrooms boasted a massive two-person jacuzzi tub and walk-in rain shower with KenetMD amenities.
A Plethora of Pools
There are nine sparkling pools to choose from. Snag a guestroom in buildings one or seven as those are oceanfront and the pool by buildings 10 and 11 are hardly ever used.
My favorite pool was the Asian-inspired Dynamic Pool in the Zen Spa – with 13 indoor and eight outdoor treatment rooms, where I had an excellent massage – is set in lush, calming surrounds.
An enormous water park and kid’s pool will keep progeny pleased. There is also a KidZ Club with specialized supervised activities and kiddie pool. Babysitting is also available for an additional fee.
There are 10 dining options to choose from, including specialty French, Japanese, Italian restaurants, and of course, hearty Mexican fare, and margaritas galore.
Guests can learn about tequila, paint a Panama hat, go to the gym, take a yoga, cardio, abs, or TRX class, among Ziva’s many daily offerings, or simply relax and do nothing but enjoy the views.
Ornithologists will be pleased to watch the entertaining plentiful pelicans dive for sustenance, while colorful kiskadees often make cameo appearances.
If you are looking to head to sunny Cancun and are seeking an all-inclusive property, for adults only or one the entire family can enjoy, take a gander at Hyatt Zilara or Hyatt Ziva. Happy travels!
