Turquoise water with white sea foam waves crashes in the distance as far as the eye can see. Down the creamy sand Atlantic coastline, our suite hangs above the sea with a myriad of pools below. Our Deluxe King Suite with wraparound balcony might be bigger than our own place in Malibu, so we relish the space and even the views from the other side of downtown Miami and the Intercoastal Waterway. Warm breezes cascade in our 9thfloor suite while we make Nespresso coffee, sample Senbei crackers (a signature welcome from Chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s home in Japan) and play with the buttons that retract and zoom up our bedside 65-inch TV (one of two in this luxe Zen hotel room).
I’m already pondering when I will find time to test out the soaking tub, a beloved Nobu Hotel feature. While the Nobu Miami Hotel is not a separate property, the hotel within the Eden Roc provides every possible amenity – from spa to shopping to free fitness classes. But the best part of staying here is the easy access to Nobu Restaurant just an elevator ride or a room service call away because all of Nobu’s fresh signature sushi selections and original brunch dishes can be delivered straight to your room.

1. Easy access to Nobu Restaurant
Walk past the gold bulldog for Nobu dinner and if you don’t have reservations, we found it easy just to find a spot by sidling up to Nobu’s glam bar or sushi bar to watch the chefs in action.
Adorned with swirly bamboo-esque columns and paper lanterns, Chef Jake Eaton now helms popular Nobu Miami offering not only signature classics but Miami specialties like sinful Wagyu Foie Gras Gyoza and Lobster Truffle Uni Noodle. The Japanese Nobu menu also hints at Latin American influences. An omakase-style tasting menu is a good place to start for newbies. Savor Nobu Classics like candy-like Miso Eggplant, melt-in-your-mouth Baked Miso Cod, Rock Shrimp Tempura, fresh salmon sashimi with truffle oil, Yellowtail Jalapeno, and Miso Braised Short Rib. Consider sharing a bottle of sake from the extensive menu with exciting options such as clean floral Junmai, silky smooth Daiginjo YK35, and Honjozo Onigoroshi ‘Devil Killer.’

Nobu in-room dining offered 24 hours a day could easily become an addictive and pricy treat as the tantalizing brunch menu explodes with items like Wagyu Bacon, Fried chicken ‘kara-age’ and green tea waffle, Matsuhisa Benedict with snow crab and crispy tofu, a Tokyo Bento, and Yaki-Niku and Egg (beef tenderloin with sautéed onions, fried eggs, and yuzu truffle teriyaki).
2. Adults-only pool
Although there is an adults-only Nobu pool at a higher elevation, there are also two adjacent Eden Roc pools and jacuzzis. Pool cabanas can make you feel special with VIP services and snazzy cocktails. Guests can store belongings in aqua vaults while they take dips in the sea too.
3. Malibu Farm steps away
Helene Henderson may have started her farm to table dining experiences in her yard in Malibu expanding to the Malibu Pier, but her Malibu Farm restaurant dynasty sure has spread all over the world, ensuring fresh and organic local produce satisfies customers. Now in Miami below Nobu Hotel, one of the only beachfront dining options in South Beach is white rustic Malibu Farm. Expect the same laid-back luxury matching the dishes.
Gourmands will rejoice with the sweet Avocado Pizza, Corn Pizza with BBQ roasted chicken, Grass-Fed Burger, Chicken Meatballs, fresh salads, Vegan Coconut and Tofu, and Broccoli Mashed Potatoes. Start your evening here for sunset with a frosé slushy or signature cocktails like Smoke with Mezcal and Shishito chipotle agave and Coconut with toasted coconut-infused rum, coconut agave, and pineapple juice.

4. Rooms with sprawling ocean views
In Nobu style, rooms reflect Japanese simplicity and desire to make guests feel relaxed – raw natural forms, colors, and textures, glowing lantern-style lighting, cerused edge wood furniture, teak and wood flooring, and black and white photography of Japanese landscapes.
Our corner Umi Suite with floor to ceiling windows boasted a walk-in closet (time to move in?), one and a half bath with rainfall shower, and Natura Bisse amenities. Dainty Japanese cherry blossom print fabric adorned the wall above the king bed while the living room below our bedroom included another 65-inch TV. The Japanese beach house vibe is appealing in a restful-Zen way.

5. Location, location, location
With the beach just outside, restaurants on-site, and being situated near fun South Beach, a plethora of interesting options are an Uber drive away. Guests can choose to stay on the property the whole time or explore Collins Ave. Cruise down the oceanfront boardwalk, grab a Cubana in Little Havana or admire the art murals in Wynwood.
6. Free hotel events
Besides the outdoor games (available upon request) like ping-pong, foosball, cornhole, and ladder golf, guests should make sure to pay attention to the weekly list of free (or paid) events. Kids can take a pizza-making class at Malibu Farm. Adults can participate in full moon yoga with sound bowl healing, interactive classes to learn about specialty facials, and pop into a lecture about LOVE. Live music can be enjoyed in the lobby bar on weekends too. The $35 resort fee covers Wi-Fi, bike rentals, beach chairs, and towels.
7. Fitness classes are complimentary
Studio fitness classes are free for guests. Check out pilates, vinyasa yoga, Tango classes, HIIT circuits, Zumba, Barre, and more. The sprawling fitness center offers a wide variety of Artis Line TechnoGym equipment.
8. Esencia Wellness Spa on site
The impressive Esencia Wellness Spa in the Nobu Hotel has 18 treatment rooms, a hydrotherapy circuit and a plethora of treatments to choose from. Prior to your treatment, guests can take advantage of complimentary access to the spa – steam, sit in a bubbly indoor jacuzzi, jump in the cool plunge pool, test out the 20+ nozzle hydro- experience shower, or relax in the spa lounge with fireplace and resort views. The HydraFacial left my skin smooth after cleaning out my pores with a non-laser non-invasive skin resurfacing technique. Hydrating and moisturizing potions and masques helped smooth out my skin tone and improve my skin’s wrinkles and fine lines too.
A shared spa with Eden Roc, Nobu also has its own signature treatments reflecting the Japanese art of caring for the body. Book the Nobu Nagomi Ritual or the Japanese Silk using Natura Bissa products to stimulate circulation and energy flow with a body exfoliation, hot stones, full-body and scalp massage and hair mask.
9. Good stay for combining work and play
The hotel has spaces for conferences and business meetings and event spaces for weddings and functions. The grand property makes it easy to feel like you are on vacation after a work function here. Who doesn’t want Nobu or Malibu Farm catering? A trendy store offering fun beach-inspired Latin American fashion and jewelry can be found on the property. The boho-chic store curates a stunning selection of dresses, accessories, purses, and bathing suits with tropical prints and festive fabrics. The Latin-expat buyer has a keen eye for specialty items like the white and gold butterfly earrings (one wing on each ear) I had to take home.
