10 Things You Didn't Know the Amazon Fire Stick Could Do

Fire Stick

Many people purchase an Amazon Fire Stick because of the access it gives them to a number of TV channels. However, there is much more that the Fire Stick can do and if you are not aware of these then you could be missing out. Here are ten things that you can do with the Fire Stick that you may not know about.

1. Watch TV

The Amazon Fire Stick gives you access to TV channels that you may not be able to find elsewhere. This is the primary reason why many people choose to purchase a stick as it can be used in any TV that has a USB port. You only need one stick to use in every TV in your home and the same content can be viewed regardless of the TV that you are using.

2. Use Alexa

The Fire Stick allows you to make use of Alexa and you can ask her many of the same questions as you would if you were using an Echo. If you have a subscription to Amazon music you can get Alexa to play music for you. If you need to look something up online then asking Alexa can often be a lot quicker than accessing the internet on another device.

3. Use Voice Search

You can search the contents of the Fire Stick quickly and easily by using voice search. This can save a lot of time if you know the content you want is on the system but you are not sure what menu you will find it in. You can search by just saying the name of the show or song that you are looking for.

4. Take It On Holiday With You

The Fire Stick will work anywhere that there is wifi and so you are able to take it on holiday with you. This is especially useful if you have young children as it is a great way to keep them entertained during the periods that you are in the room. It also means that you do not need to worry about missing your favorite shows while you are away.

5. Set Your Location For Greater Accuracy

If you use Alexa to give you information about local news and weather then setting your location will give you more relevant information. It is also useful if you need directions from your home to another location.

6. Turn Off Autoplay For Suggested Programs

You will receive suggestions about programs that you may be interested in based on other shows that you have watched. By default the advertisements for these shows will start auto playing when you are looking through the menus but some people find this quite distracting. This autoplay feature can be turned off so that you will still see the list of the shows but they won't start showing the trailers.

7. Put Parental Controls In Place

If your children also use the Fire Stick and you are worried about them watching something programs for adults then you can put parental controls in place. This means that you can have the confidence to let your children operate the Fire Stick themselves without you having to supervise them.

8. Use Your Own Photos As A Screensaver

You can add your own photos to the Fire Stick so they can be used for a screensaver. You can choose to have just one photo or add several so that they make a slideshow. If you do choose the slideshow option then there are lots of ways you can customize the slideshow so that you get it as you want it, such as choosing the speed of the show and how long each photo is on the screen for.

9. Delete Apps That You Do Not Want

The Fire Stick will come with apps that have been preloaded onto it. You may find that some of these apps are very useful but there may also be apps on there that you do not need. You are able to delete these apps so that it makes more room for things that you do want.

10. Use Miracast On Your TV

If you have an android device then you can use the Fire Stick to Miracast to your TV. This allows you to use your device to choose a video online but then stream it directly to your TV. This can be a good idea if you have something on your device that you want to share with everyone in the room.
