10 Things You Didn't Know About the 2022 BMW iNext

2022 BMW iNext

The future of cars is truly happening now, but that doesn’t mean manufacturers have stopped pushing the envelope. Although we’ve seen BMW’s iNext quite a few times now since its 2018 concept reveal at the Los Angeles Motor Show, we’re finally getting in more details on how the vehicle is going to be like. The iNext is set to hit the market in 2022, pending everything goes as planned, and car fans everywhere are getting excited with anticipation. If you haven’t seen or heard anything about the BMW iNext, we’ve compiled a list of 10 things you should know.

1. It’s electric

It’s clear that hybrids and electric cars are becoming more popular than ever for car buyers everywhere. This is the direction the industry is going into, and we’re all for it. BMW knows this very well, and so it makes sense that the company’s biggest projects at hand should include a mighty electric vehicle. It’s a plus, for sure, especially since you won’t have to worry about where to charge these days.

2. It’s a crossover.

The BMW iNext is not a sedan. It isn’t a full SUV either. According to Autoblog.com, this 2022 luxury vehicle is manufactured as a CUV—a crossover utility vehicle. CUV’s are built on a sedan foundation, but they have the form and features of a sports utility vehicle. This includes features such as passenger seating and interior room height, a higher ground clearance, and possibly even an AWD capability. It really combines the best of both worlds, and it’s probably one of the best blueprints for an electric vehicle.

3. It’s going to be big

Reputations of electric vehicles in the past have leaned towards small and awkward. The designs of the first electric cars have always followed function first. After all, electric cars have been around since the late 1800s. It’s only in the last couple of decades or so that manufacturers have been able to really up the ante when it comes to looks and style. The BMW iNext is going to be longer and bigger than the average electric car, which is saying a lot when it comes to the type.

4. It’ll have the new logo.

Did you know that BMW redesigned the company logo on March 2020? The German automaker is upgrading its brand for the first time in a couple of decades. Instead of having a black ring, the company is opting for complete transparency. We first saw the logo design upon the release of the i4 concept car, and we’re now finding out that the BMW iNext will definitely have the new logo on its body.

5. The grille has been updated

Car manufacturers take grille updates seriously. It’s one of the biggest draws for the buyer, and it seems that the trend has leaned towards bigger-is-better in the last several years of car manufacturing history. It’s no different for the iNext, except that the grille seems to be oddly larger than normal. BMW claims that there’s a reason for it all. According to Topspeed.com, the grille will contain all the car’s sensors and radars. It may be a good balance of form and function in this case, but we’ll have to wait and see if the final design is worth the trouble.

6. It’ll have a nice view.

One of the best features of the BMW iNext will be the larger windows. We’ve been seeing this trend as well, with lines getting slimmer between views and window panels getting larger every year. The passenger seats will get a nice treat without the sloping designs of the back window. Instead, the lines run straight through, providing the passenger with ample amounts of view.

7. The dash will be different

Sure enough, digital dashes are nothing new. But you should expect that the BMW iNext dash would look rather different compared to the traditional vehicle. Based on the concept model, the dash will have standing monitors instead of ones that recede into the dashboard. Everything should be touchscreen. The steering wheel is expected to have a polygonal shape rather than the traditional wheel.

8. The seating features will be nice

There’s nothing much to say about the seating features other than the fact that they will be luxury-grade. You’ll find rotating seats to accommodate for movement. You’ll also find other comfort features such as backward-bending headrests. The passenger seats will come as a bench, but BMW is likely to offer bucket seat upgrades or more. Whether BMW will do more for seating features is something we’ll find out after the car’s release.

9. It’s the next step to full autonomy

BMW’s electric technology is some of the best in the industry, and the company is definitely pouring some of that tech into the iNext. This CUV will be the first in the company’s line to feature Level 5 Autonomy. BMW has dubbed this tech as the “Personal Co-Pilot.” In theory, you should be able to be completely hands off and minds off in certain situations, but that theory is still out for testing. The company is set to release pilot vehicles in 2021 to test the Level 5 Autonomy technology before production begins for public use.

10. The mileage will be impressive.

2022 BMW iNext 5

Upon release of the concept vehicle, BMW stated that the iNext would have a range of roughly 370 miles. However, we believe that this number will be closer to the average number, and BMW is likely to push the limits on this envelope before the 2022 release. We’re expecting the iNext’s mileage range to be closer to 400 miles or maybe even more by the time it comes out in 2022. There’s definitely a lot of competition in this arena, and we expect BMW to want to be at the top of the luxury electric market. A higher mile range will definitely do it, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
